Tikka T3 C.O.L 25-06

I am the new owner of a T3 lite 25-06. Max C.O.L in all the manuals is 3.250". Nosler Balistic tips touches rifling at 3.208, Sierra game king touches at 3.145". Some one please correct me if I am wrong on this but is the max C.O.L. of 3.250 a industry standard of maximum chamber length in the event some factory ammo is manufactured to maximum C.O.L. of 3.250". If this is the case I could not chamber that round in my new T3.
Has any one else seen this on their rifles or do I have a odd ball.
 
My Remington 700 in .280 Rem is shorter that the C.O.L. I have never fired a factory round in this rifle. Perhaps "guntech" might have a recommendation.
 
I find with the det mag guns that the Magazine is what limits my OAL..usually hard to get a bullet jammed into the lands. Industry standard oal goes out the window when handloading..just serves a guide and that measurement "should" fit in all guns .
 
Thanks for the advice guys. I guess I just got lucky with this one,my buddy at work says he can't come close to his rifling on his t3. I usually go .010" off of the rifling with Nosler ballistic tips and .030" with Barnes XBT.l
 
Same deal, a friend just purchased a 25-06 T3 and we found the same thing, almost exactly. Don't know what the actual length of factory rounds are so I don't know if they would fit but I would think so or Tika would be getting some guns back.
 
I load for 4 different tikka rifles and in all cases I just load my rounds to the max length that will fit in the magazine, never had a problem with chambering and/or accuracy.
 
Thanks for the input but if I did load to max length that could fit the magazine I would never be-able to chamber the round. That is the problem my chamber is shorter than the manual limits. On the bright side I am able to seat the bullet as close to the lands as I want depending on accuracy.

Sounds wrong. in My Tikka T3 222 and Sako A7..I can use the whole magazine with any bullet and I have room to spare. It sounds like the throat is cut too short. I guess it could be a good thing for you depending on what bullet you are loading. If you are loading a really long bullet you might compressing the powder more than you want.

No hasn't returned the rifle we're still working on loads. Never tried factory and the powders tried so for don't fill the cases even at max loads so still room for long bullets. Marty if you come upon a good load for 100 & or 120 gr bullets for that gun post them up please.
 
The only good one I have found so far is 47 grains of IMR 4350 with a 100 grain NBT shoots 1/2 inch groups, but is only going around 2900 fps. I just tried 52 grains H4350 with 100 grain sierra BT at 3150 fps but it shoots 2 1/4 inch groups. My next try will be 56 grains RL22 with a 100 grain sierra BT and a federal 215 primer. I'll let you know how it goes.
 
Here is the low down boys. The first load I tried was 56 grains RL 22 with a 100 grain Sierra .010" from rifling C.O.L. 3.142" once fired winchester brass neck sized only with federal 215 primers at 3130 FPS. 3 shot group size was 1.100, the forth shot opened it up to 1.500". The three shot group was a nice triangle. If there is such a thing as a nice 1.5 inch group this one was nice not stringing verticaly or horizontaly all in a bunch.
I also tried 52 grains H4350 again but swithced primers from a C.C.I. 250 to federal 215group size went from 2.25 to 1.2, I guess primers do make a differance. F.P.S. was 3150
Both loads grouped pretty much the exact same.
When I have a hunting load worked up with 100 grain TTSX I'll let you guys know how it goes. Talk to you later.

Cool, that should work on most of the big game you will ever encounter. Ive got some 100gr. TSX ready to go for my 25-06 AI...should be able to work up a load soon. Also going to play with some 125gr. Matrix bonded bullets.
