wondering if anyone has any experience with the tikka t3 compact with 20" barrel in 243. i realize some FPS will be lost, but im really interested something a little smaller and more manuverable for shooting beaver out of a river boat, coyote hunting, etc. Also make a good first hunting rifle for my daughter when she gets a little older. any opinions appreaciated, thanks.

I have a compact in 308. I really like it and with a 243/308 the velocity loss is negligible and if you reload you can make up the difference. I just received a McMillan Edge for mine and with the VX3 and Talleys its a compact lightweight package weighing in at 6lbs 8oz. Barrel profile on the T3's is actually a little larger than most sporter profiles so the 20" bbl balances very nicely.

My father has several tikka t3 rifles, the t3 lite .308, the t3 ctr .308 and the t3 lite compact in .243 and he loves them all, it operates and shoots just as you would expect from a tikka, it's a safe buy that you will be happy with, just remember the gun is only as good as the glass, but I'm sure you already know that haha, cheers

right on, thanks guys. i'm currently hoping to find a leupold vxr 3-9x40 or 2-7x33 fire dot duplex to go with it. i think for the inteded purpose, it should work nicely.
