Tikka T3 CTR.

I like the specs on the CTR, however I don't think the steel mags are an upgrade. The polymer mags on the other T3s are virtually indestructible and they feed smoother than any other mag system I have ever tried. i have had several T3s and the older 595s over the years and they have always been great shooters and the mags have never given me a lick of trouble.
I agree about the mags. When I bought my T-3 I questioned the plastic mags....... until the 250lb salesman jumped up and down on it. Not a scratch on it and it popped right back into the gun. Try that with the new steel mags. The rest of the CTR looks pretty sweet.
Yes I third the mags. Just in the hunting thread I was suggesting. Nooby to buy a tikka over rugger or Winchester. One person chimed in using the plastic mag as a negative. Meanwhile I love that magazine. As you said nothing I ever owned cycles that smooth and anything you need to do to break that mag. Would break a steel one as well. If tikka had more after market parts etc my build would have never been a savage. To me savage and Remington actions are horrendous compared to tikka and sako. The Remington and savage boys can argue with me all night long. Those actions can't even be held in the same conversation. But I too had to pick one and bought a savage only for aftermarket parts and upgrade ability. I really chose the one I hated least. Don't get me wrong I love my 10fcp-sr as its a tack driver. But cycling that bolt is nothing like my tikka. And my tikka is just the cheapo hunter version.
The achilles heal of the Tikka design is the aluminum recoil lug, however that can be overcome very easily with a hardened steel lug from Lumley Arms. I think it was under $100 to my door for two bedding kits that included two stainless recoil lugs and 4 stainless pillars and new stainless action screws. I have had a few custom builds on Savage and Remington, and one on a Pierce that I just sold, the Pierce was easily head and shoulders above the other two, but now I am running a factory Tikka T3 Varmint stainless and I am very happy with the results so far. I have it torn apart right now doing the pillars and bedding the action into the factory stock, but, I also have a new GRS stock ordered and on it's way for a nice upgrade over the factory synthetic stock.
I will likely look pretty hard at the CTR when it comes available, hopefully this year, as I would like a nice short barrelled 308 for tactical matches that require that caliber for range tempting purposes. I think it will be priced very similar to the varmint model so it will be a good value for those that want that style of rifle.

If that is true, I would just buy another SS Varmint instead and get the 23.75" barrel.

I am interested ina T3 for a hunting rifle but also the odd fun at range. I was looking at the site again and this came up. Its still light, but with what they call a semi heavy barrel contour . I assume its in between normal and the heavy barrel.
My big thought is, can this also take the normal t3 mags, which when hunting the normal mag is fine, but then when at the range, 10 rounds is nice to have.

Was there a reason given by any chance? This rifle looked liked the ultimate 3 way crossover (range, varmint, deer) and it is a Tikka. Very disappointed to hear this.
No particular reason for the 260 maybe not enough people asking for that caliber. You can get one in a Tikka t3 lite stainless which will be my choice and I will get it fluted by one of the gunsmiths in the area, may change the stock as well.
