I recently bought a Tikka T3 Super Varmint in 308. The first time I took it out the gun worked like a dream. However ever since then it has had this consistant feeding problem. When the mag is loaded and fully pushed into the gun, I push the bolt forward to load the round and the round won't load. The bolt seems to slide over the round completely. Other times the bolt will catch the rear of the round to push it forward but the tip of the round wouldn't slide into the chamber. Then I'd have to pull the bolt open again and push the round in with a little force. This isn't normal and when I emailed the place where I bought it from they told me that I could send it back to them and they would look at it. However given my location, that would be a very long time without this gun. Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Tikka T3 Super Varminters are supplied with a 5 round magazine for the .308. All the ones I've seen feed very smoothly. If you tried to load it with 6 rounds it may jam. If you have loaded it with 5 rounds or less and it still jams then it is faulty and needs replacement. Before sending it back you might want to remove the follower and spring from the mag to see if something in there is hanging up - but be very careful - if you damage it they will not replace it free. To remove the follower and spring push down on the rear of the follower which will let you remove the front of the follower and spring out the front of the magazine.

Are you working the bolt slowly?

I have 3 Tikkas (this one included) and I always move the bolt at the same speed. Neither of the other 2 (a .270 T3 Lite and a 458wm M695) ever have had a loading issue, ever...

I have tried loading it with 1-5 rnds (never 6) and each time it still has this same issue. I also tried taking the mag apart to see if there was an internal problem with it and it looks perfectly fine. Besides if the mag was faulty why did it work perfectly on my first time out with it? The first trip I put about 25 rnds through it perfectly.

It appears you've done all you can. Time to talk with the Tikka people at Stoeger Canada as follows;

Did you removed the stock for cleaning? I had similar problem, It is possible to put stock back without having metal aligning piece in place and the clip sits lover than it should spouse to be.

Thanks for the tip there Vic1. I did take it apart after the first time out to float the barrel a bit more. I'll take it apart again and see if the metal piece is sitting properly. Hopefully this will solve my headache. I really do love this gun.
