I have a Tikka T3 Lite in 243. I would like to get barrel swap done for a different cal...maybe a 260 Remington or other caliber that would work with the same bolt face.

Does anyone have any experience doing this? Any suggestions as to a caliber? I just want more accuracy and something to plink with or hunt with at a longer range. I'm in MB so I'd like to find someone here that could do it for me.

Thanks in advance

Nothing to it, buy a blank in whatever cal you want, take it to a gun smith have it chambered and installed. I've rebarreled lots of Tikkas I prefer them over any other factory action. As for ideas on cal, you can run anything you want that has a standard 308 bolt face or you can switch the bolt stop to long action and change the mag to a long action and run anything with standard bolt face (3006, 270, 280, etc)

I would be thinking .243 based on what you've said. Are you sure you want to do this?

I always wanted a better barrel to see what kind of accuracy I could squeeze out of the Tikka. And I was leaning towards 260 Remington cal since it can shoot heavier bullets with a higher BC than a 243. I don`t know what kind of cost would be involved to pick out a new barrel and get it twisted on but I know it`s hard to find the Tikka in 260 Rem.

What make of barrel have you found is the most accurate for the price and what caliber would be a good choice.

260 Rem
6.5 Creedmore
6.5x47 Lapua

All three are nice low recoil shooters with fantastic ballistics. Hunting big game to 3-400 yards would be fine. Smaller game like coyotes could be shot further out.

6.5x47 has really long brass life and easy to develop loads for. The Creedmore is the only one of the three that doesn't have Lapua brass available so keep that in mind. 260 Rem is pretty cool.

Here is a nice article that explains these 3 cartridges quite well and covers the Pros and Cons of each
