I know that this is a subjective thing, but how would you rate the recoil for the 30.06 or 7mmRM in the Tikka T3 Lite? The reason I ask is because they are light rifles compared to most others, and I am interested in buying one of these rifles in the calibers mentioned. I don't find the recoil from my Rem 760 in .270 to be significant at all. Thanks for any input.

I have a Tikka T3 lite in 300wsm. It kicks like a kitten. I have a M700 270 that kicks like a mule. Everyone is scared of the 300wsm at first they want to shot the 270, then they try the 300wsm and are scared of the 270.

I have a T-3 in .270 WSM and I would say that the recoil is comparable to my somewhat heavier Rem. 700 .30-06. The T-3 fits me very well which also helps make it pleasant to shoot. You can also replace the recoil pad on a T-3 (the stock one isn't great) with a Limbsaver or similar. I don't think that you would find the recoil from a T-3 in .30-06 or 7mm RM that bad at all if you're already shooting a .270.

Go with a T3 in a Laminate Stainless for a bit heavier rifle, or maybe the new cama T3 Stainless. I have 2 T3 LS 270WSM, love them, and dont find they recoil hard since I'm use to shooting a 300WM. My wife shoots one of the rifles and she finds the recoil mild. I have seen a few guys in the past month buying 338WM in T3 Lite Stainless, but I think they will be in for a surprise. I personally would have got the 338 in the LS.

Have a look at www.reloads.com
halfway down their home page on the right hand side there is a drop-down bar "Recoil Calculator" - fun to play with, changing the variables of gun, bullet weight and velocity. You may be able to make a comparable reference to your question.

i to find recoil in t3 lite 300 wsm to be on the light side. i think its a well designed stock which disperses the recoil. i can shoot as much as i want without discomfort. i mostly shoot max loads with 180 grn.

After a day of shooting my T3 .300WM, I can feel it, but I dress lighter than I would if hunting. Also, the lightweight rifle is a great for hunting, I can carry it all day and it never feels heavy.

Thanks for all your input guys. The lighter weight looks like it won't be much of a factor. I will be installing a Limbsaver pad though. I put one on my turkey gun, and couldn't believe the difference.

Giugiaro designed the stock for the Tikka T-3's and it is a very user freindly design for recoil management.
I have found a pet handload using Retumbo for my 270WSM that also reduces felt recoil dramatically.

delmer:

I can't tell you the difference in recoil between the 760 in .270 and a T3 in 7mmRM, but I can share with you my experience with the Brownings.

I can manage shooting the .270 (6 lb 11 oz) with 150 gr bullets all day at the bench. With the 300WM (7 lb 3 oz) shooting 200 gr bullets, I do up to 10 rounds. The increased in recoil is very noticeable. 7mmRM may not kick as hard but that will give you a comparison.

If you are planning to shoot off the bench you can always wear a Past mag shield and/or upgrade the recoil pad to soften the recoil.

Cheers!

Danny

My T-3 Battue in 30-06 (that's the real lightweight one with the short barrel) when firing 180 GR. bullets with full power handloads recoils less than my full weight .375 HH...not much less though. But who cares?...they're hunting rifles...good for only one or two shots....usually while wearing all sorts of thick cold weather gear...who notices recoil when firing at game?..nobody...as bench guns they are both equally brutal...but they aren't bench guns...that's the point.

Since the t-3 uses the same action length for the 300wsm and 300wm,I would choose the 300wm since it will provide slightly more velocity with handloads.

I've never shot one of these, but the stock fits me just like a straigth browning Abolt, when looking through the scope, I only get about 1/4 of the butt into my shoulder. OK on a 308, but definitly not on a 300 wm or 338.

Nothing makes a bigger difference than a great recoil pad. The limbsaver or descelerator models are invaluable if you are recoil sensitive. My 7mm WSM savage used to really beat the crap out of me with the factory recoil pad. Now that I put a descelerator on, I can shoot it all day (which I usually don't mind you since rounds are so expensive).

I can't speak to the quality of the Tikka T3 factory recoil pads since I've never owned one, but usually an aftermarket recoil pad is a big help over any factory recoil pad.
