Hey does anybody know what size screw to use to mount a scope base on a 22-250 tikka t3 lite???

I been screwing around for awhile trying to determine what size screws to mount my scope base to the action. I have tried both 6-48 and in metric 3.5mm but neither seem to be able to screw down all the way. Im not sure if there are different thread patterns or not?

Am I using the right screws or not? I dont want to ruin any threads by trying to tighten them down and realizing im using the wrong screws.

Help would greatly be appreciated, thanks.

6/48 IIRC is the correct size... but you said u tried that.. are u sure they arnt to long and hitting the bolt?

and did u try to screw the base on, or just thread the screw all the way in with out a base?

Ok I will attempt again with the scope base. I had the bolt pulled out and was just threading the screw in to see if it would thread all the way through so I would know that I had the correct size screw.

I know the plug screws I bought to fill the sight holes for a Tikka T3 Battue were metric. I would guess the holes on the receiver are metric as well?!?!?

Ya that was the problem I was having. In the tikka manual everything was in metric so I had figured the screws would be also. When I have time to figure out this problem ill let ya know. I have both 6-48 screws ill try again but I coulda swore that they didn't want to screw all the way through even with the bolt out. And I didn't want to try tightening it down and ruining the threads

Thanks ultimate monkey for the help. The problem has been solved and it was a ridiculous error. I had used a 6-48 tap to find out that 6-48 was indeed the right size BUT.. A friend had given me a bunch of "6-48" screws to use. After some trial and error I realized that somebody had labeled the screws incorrectly and that the screws that were given to me were actually 6-40. It was frustrating but I'm looking forward to sighting in my gun this summer. Thanks again

glad to see you got it figured out!

and cudos to you for takeing the time to not get over zelous and just force the inncorrect screws in there! commen sense prevails!
