tikka t3 mags crack in the cold?

I've seen cracked bolt shroud, cracked bottom "metal", and broken feed lips. Don't know if it was the cold or just abuse. Most likely abuse.

im going up north in ontario next year to hunt moose, so im looking at buying a tikka t3 (in 30-06). im not sure what the temps are gonna be like but im told its rather cold that time of year, probably coldest of -20 C. a friend im going with has told me that the poly mags in the tikkas tend to crack in the cold. has anybody ever heard of this before?

Never heard of it. I've used mine in -30C conditions without issues.

I have hunted in -40 for elk in Dec/Jan around Riding Mountain National Park, believe me you will crack and give up before your Tikka magazine will!

I'm pretty sure we've all made errors in judgement or opinion about something to do with firearms before (well, except for a select few know-it-alls on CGN ^^^).

Tell your buddy that Tikka poly mags work fine in cold temps. Teach him rather than mock him.

Hunted in lots of -25 to -35 C weather in northern Alberta...no issues with the 2 Tikka T3 LS rifles I had. Took a large cow elk couple years ago at -33C with a T3 LS 270WSM.

Mine has not cracked or given me any problems. Don't worry about it. If the gun fits you well and you like it, your good to go.

I've hunted with my Tikka for 10 seasons, often in some pretty cold temps, never had any problems with cracked mags, nor have I ever heard of any problems with the mags cracking in the cold.

If your capable of cracking the mag you have no business owning a gun or any nice things. The polymer mag thing is something anti tikka guys talk about. Cause why would you want a polymer mag when you could have a steel floor plate that drops your ammo on the floor everytime.

i have not seen anything either when hunting coyotes with mine in Jan \Feb , nor my Dad's or brothers.
Calling coyotes in extreme cold brings in coyotes as they need groceries in their gut, so this tells you when i go.

They work fine, but they are waaay too expensive for what they are.

It is year 2015 not 1915 so these kind of story can still go around.
Finnland is not located beside Jamaica or Cuba in the middle of the Carribean.
They have almost indentical hunting situations and grounds like we do in Canada.
Where all of this theory is coming from...does side mirror casing on your buddy's truck brakes from driving 100km/h when it is -30 and takes 1000 times more pressure than tikkas mag when loading and unloading three or four bullets depends on calibre of tikka you are using.
