Tikka T3 Super Varmint

And what kind of recoil would be in a 204 Ruger? Congrats on the set up. P & D Enterprises are a class act. Its the only place where I buy all my NEW rifles and reloading supplies from. I will be there next monday morning since I will be in the city for work meetings & will be stocking up again.

I was reffering to stubblejumpers post with a hint of sarcasm about eye relief on the 204 Ruger. I know its virtually none.

For a newbie you certainly made some good choices. I haven't seen that splatter pattern before....and I like it. Congrads.

I agree with whomever it was that suggested the shooting sticks. I don't like the pipods personally, twangy, springy noisy PITA things (just my opinion though).

I'll certainly try a shooting stick, the bipod seems ok except its not great to follow targets with because the legs tend to fold in as I turn, the guns just to heavy to hold for an extended period of gopher hunting (usually 7-9 hours where I go) so I need something to help me hold up that heavy target barrel.

I've been using a stony point "polecat" shooting stick. Its made out of pretty heavy duty aluminum that is surprisingly light. Joined together by a v-shaped cradle that is covered in ribbed rubber. Makes for a very solid shooting stick set-up that can be adjusted for sitting or standing shooting as terrain requires. When not in use, they also make for a great walking or hiking stick, especially when crossing algae covered rocks while traversing brooks & streams, crossing bogs, or boulder strewn hills.

I use a bipod mostly for my .204... I have a set of sticks for standing, you can see them on the wall behind the rifle... but for long shooting (400+yrds) prone is the answer.:)

Somebody asked about recoil... There is none with the pro hunter and the 28" med/heavy barrel!

Man I love that gun! I wanted a Thompson Center but wasn't having any luck with the local vendors, nobody wanted to order it in for me.

Is that a Thompson barrel or custom?

Thats a T/C factory 28" fluted heavy barrel and your right, it is hard to get T/C stuff in Canada. It shoots Factory Hornady 32V-Max @ 4300fps.. sub MOA groups and you watch the bullet strikes in the scope. Longest shot so far was 440 on a Groundhog... best shot was a 380yard headshot on a Crow from the deck rail.
I am very impressed with the .204... fur friendly on Coyotes but I don't recommend the light bullets... I am thinking 40 gr Ballistic tips for the big dogs.
