Tikka T3 Tactical

Definately right there. I'd take my "cheap" 700P with HWMNBN's tweaks over a T3 Tactical any day, and for $250 cheaper ;).

Agreed, I was going to do the same thing but timing got in the way ;)
With what I was going to have done it was basically the same price but had a wait and I am one IMPATIENT bugger, well , anytime except when looking through the scope of my rifle ;) ;)

Just came accross this:

Tikka T3 Tactical Rifle Receives Prestigious NRA Golden Bullseye Award

Accokeek, MD — Beretta USA is the proud recipient of the prestigious 2007 NRA Golden Bullseye Award for "Rifle of the Year" from American Rifleman Magazine for the Tikka T3 Tactical Rifle. The highly regarded Golden Bullseye Awards are presented annually by the National Rifle Association to acknowledge the finest products available in the shooting sports industry. The products are carefully evaluated and are voted on by an elite committee consisting of editors, art staff and veteran publications personnel with more than a century of collective experience in the firearm industry.

"It is truly an honor for the Tikka T3 Tactical Rifle to be recognized by such a well respected group of our fellow peers," stated Patrick McDonald, Vice President of Sales & Marketing. "The Tikka T3 rifle series offers shooters incredible accuracy and reliability at a reasonable price. It is with great pride that we accept the prestigious 2007 'Rifle of the Year' Golden Bullseye Award from American Rifleman."

The Tikka T3 rifle series is the brainchild of engineers at Sako Finland and designers at Giugiaro in Italy. The Tikka T3 rifle line incorporates all of the features expected in a high quality rifle, a fast and smooth action, a fully adjustable trigger, distinctive styling, all at an unbeatable price. However, one of the most remarkable features of this firearm is that each one of these rifles is individually tested and does not leave the Finland facility until it groups three shots under 1 inch at 100 yards. This makes the Tikka T3 the industry benchmark for "out-of-the-box" accuracy.

The Tikka T3 is designed for the hunter looking for top performance and innovation, but desires a classic style and feel in a rifle. The T3 series offers an extensive caliber and stock selection for the hunting and sport shooter. The Tikka T3 truly sets the standard with a new level of accuracy, reliability and shooting enjoyment.

Just my two cents, just take your Tikka out of the box and shoot, break it in or don't. It will shoot, don't have to send it out for "tweaking" new trigger, new barrel, nothing. Just shoot it. In fact I have sold all my Rem's except for one, (sentimental reasons) and used the money for buying Tikka's, and bullets and powder. I think that once people get over the, not from over here or its not what everyone uses, you will see that there are advantages to thinking outside the box ;)

Ok guys, here is the deal. I would much rather get a Remington 700P. My dad is insane and says that remington 700's are crap lol. Seeing as he is the one paying and doesnt really care about cost I picked the Tikka Tactical because he really likes Tikka and Sako but I didn't see any Sako's that I would like. I am looking to get it in .223 so I can hunt varmint liek coyotes with it and also target shoot. I am trying to convince my dad to get the 700P though. And thats the story.

I personally would consider the Varminto over the Tactical for the better value spent. Like others her have already stated, a 6.5 Swede HB factory offering is as good as it gets! Tikka's 8" twist .223 Rem. holds some interest with me as well.

There are genuine concerns regarding the plastic mag and relatively flimsy platic stock found on both the Varmint and Tactical. IMHO the "Tactical" moniker is just marketing pure and simple. You really can't take it seriously as a tactical rifle due to it's extensive use of plastics in areas where steel or heavy reinforced fiberglass have long been considered the standard for ruggedness, durability, and reliability in field conditions.

If your Tikka is just going to be a Range Queen like 99% of the Remingtons out there, buy it and have some fun. Are there other offerings out there worth considering? Sure, there is! Buy what makes you happy.

I'm not brand loyal at all one way or another. If I like it, I'll buy t regardless of who makes it. I must comment though that I do currently own (6) Rem 700's.

I don't see the attraction of the expensive Tacticle style rifle unless you are going to do that "style" of competition a lot.

I would not rule out Remington. I recently sold a 700 VLS in .223 that would shoot the cheapest factory ammo under 3/4 inches consistently. I am sure with good reloads it would be under 1/2 inch easily. It looks good and feels good.

After gunsmithing for 40 years and seeing all sorts of accuracy and problems with all sorts of rifles, I still would not hesitate to buy a Remington... and I have read all the "internet" stories about how bad Remington is supposed to be ...

Cool! Sounds like it's starting to gain quite a rep. But for $1400 (and that's apparently a low price), you can get a better build and with some accessories. One of the main reasons Savage is such a competitor with Remington is because of their out of the box accuracy combined with a low price.

Ok guys, good news. My dad and I went gun shopping today. He finally decided Remy's aren't so bad and is looking into getting me a 700PSS:) I really like the 700PSS for looks, feel, and from what I heard it is very reliable and very accurate and easy to upgrade.

When you get it I suggest you take it to a good technician and have the action glass bedded (all stocks with an aluminum block will benefit from this), the trigger worked lighter and the scope properly mounted.

Then go and enjoy it... for many years...
