Tikka T3 Varmint S/S Synthetic

my Tikka T3 light in 300 WSM is my first gun (as a new hunter).

I've only taken a moose, a caribou and a nice four by four white tail.

I've never owned a 'real man's gun' so I can't compare it to anything else.

Sure does the job for me though. Can't really say it's pretty.

- but if I want pretty, I'll go buy a Playboy. :D

That a Boy!!! I also like my base model tikka T3 lite as stated not pretty but very functional.. I have found the action to be smooth and reliable, it is exceptionally accurate!! All this in a package with a weight of less than seven pounds and a light price to boot!! My idea of a "Mans" rifle is a tack driver, one with some battle scars and blood stains on the sling cosmetics come second!!! But each to there own I guess.

FYI

I ordered a 6.5 Tikka T3 Lite with stainless barrel and synthetic stock from Epps Epps about a year ago.

I also bought a Leopold Var-X III 2-8 scope for it. A smoother rig you will never see. It had fantastic ergonomics, a very slick action and undoubtedly would have been a tack driver. But I never actually fired the thing, as I was so disgusted by its soulless, artless visage, it made me feel sick just putting it to my shoulder.

I sold that rifle, never having fired a single shot. No doubt, it went to a nice, practical fellow, who pays his taxes and takes out the garbage when his wife tells him to. He can keep the T3. I want a man’s gun, one with a bit of character and flash. I will take a Winchester, a Remington, or just about anything else besides.

There is a good argument in favour of the Mercedes Smart Car, and many may be forced to own one for economic or other reasons of practicality. But would any man really want to own one? Could any man love such a thing?

And if you don’t understand any of this, then there is no point in me trying to convince you. You either have a pair or you don’t. As far as I am concerned, guys who own the cute little Tikka rifle are the same kind of guys who are members of the Liberal Party of Canada. They have big smiles on their simple faces and a yellow stripe down their spineless backs. Tikka should issue coupons with their guns. Buy a Tikka and you get a free decaffeinated cappuccino and a box of tampons.

The Tikka was made for such “men.” Or is it the other way around?

Bigbill

Hey Bigbill, It sure looks like there are a lot of practical fellows here without a pair who have big smiles on their simple faces and yellow stripes down their spineless backs. In fact I would go as far as to say there's a whole damn flock:)

Unfortunately, you are correct. I am moving to Texas.

well! it is really difficult to know where to begin. i thought that these forums were to discuss ones thoughts and experiences as regards various firearms, amongst enthusiastic and responsible(read-mature) gunnutz. it pains me to think that an already to-small community, which is not short on critics who pander to peoples fears and ignorance, has within it, people who are caving to there own fears and ignorance, and attacking there own community with narrow, verging on close-minded statements such as "...simple faces and a yellow stripe down there spineless backs. Tikka should issue coupons with there guns. buy a Tikka and get a free decaffeinated cappucino and a box of tampons." Bigbill, i'm curious, how long you congratulated yourself after crafting that little gem? which at face value may seem quite witty to someone like you. but take a moment and focus that spectacular intellectual acumen of yours on the possibility that you may be insulting and dismissing countless numbers of fellow shooters with those statements. you see, the very first Tikka i ever held belonged to and was placed in my hands by my grandfather, a veteran of WW 2, a man who was willing to kill and die so that people like you could own, or not own, whatever guns they chose. his name was bill as well, and he loved that rifle. i wonder Bigbill? would you stand in front of my grandfather and ask to see his yellow stripe, or perhaps ask how it is that he stood so tall without the benefit of a spine, or would you simply offer him a tampon, because people like you know so much about people like him. no, i don't suppose you would, my grandfather passed a few years ago, and people like you rely on the anonymity of forums such as these to keep the rest of us from seeing and smelling your insecurity and your fears. i will not speak for others, simply myself when i say, i hope we meet some day, thank you for the insights and proving what my grandfather always said "nobody's completely useless. they can always serve as a bad example." please! i implore you, move to texas.

now that i have dispensed with that unpleasantness, i would like to add my two cents worth. i currently own three Tikkas. the one my grandfather left me(6.5-55), and two others i bought more recently. the first is a continental in .223(blued/wood stock/det. mag/med. contour barrel) the second is a Tikka T-3 in .300 WSM(stainless/laminate). i have never been a fan of the hollow synthetic stocks. they seem to act as a resonance chamber for the recoil impulse of the rifle. i much prefer the laminate stocks these days, as i believe they offer the best of both worlds. the look, and solid feel of wood, and the weather-beating durability of the plastic/polymer/what-have-you type stocks.
i love and have been impressed with all three rifles. that is not to say however that i don't have any criticisms. any reasonable shooter usually finds something he or she(sorry Bigbill) would have done differently. i will stick to the Tikka T-3. i wish the trigger-guard, the rear cover on the bolt assembly, and the magazine were metal. while i appreciate the innovative design of the recoil lug between the action and the stock, it makes the rifle impossible to glass bed(so i was told by a gunsmith). there you have it, all that being said these three rifles will probably remain in my employ for quite a while to come.
they have anchored some 40 plus animals amongst them. i strongly recommend a Tikka T-3 to anyone looking for a good rifle. if for no other reason, than to get in touch with your feminine side(according to Bigbill).

good luck, good shooting

If you want to upgrade the 6.5mm boy gun to a man gun by keeping the same gun...Get a Mcmillan or HS Precision custom stock installed on it.

I considered Upgrade the 6.5X55 boytoy to BoyGirl toy with multicolor sling, forget about HS precision or Mcmillan over price, just modify the original color of the stock from black to florescent pink and Purple, that way it is more friendly to the Civi.

Got 2 Vss both drive tacks if I can hit the tacks that day. Own a T-3 lite that shoot sub MOA all day long and a Tikka Tac 308 that is simply just amazing! with any load, it shoots bad loads well.
Big fan of them myself as well, my 222 tikka shoots along side my Sako A111 22ppc. There good!

I have had rilfes made by Savage, sold it for a Browning, sold it for a Winchester, then last year bought 2 Weatherby Vangaurds. After buying a Tikka Tactical this spring , I am selling my others to buy another Tactical. After letting guys at our range try out my Tikka, 99% loved it. One guy here is getting one in 6.5x55, can't wait to try it.

I love my Tik Tac in 308 shots factory loads at .5 moa all day long!
Just ordered a Leupold 4.5-14 x 40 PR LR scope for it, can't wait to get it!

Cheers,
Craig

I've had a Tikka M658 for 16 years and love it. Super comfortable and accurate. At -45c the bolt just slides out on it's own. Super smooth. My magazine is metal though and heavier than the new ones. But last year I did some major mod's to it and it shoots sub moa at 200 yrds. With the mod's I guess you could now call it a tactical hunting rifle.

I am one happy camper or should I say shooter.:p :D

Now that is one nice Tikka !

Too bad, like most other makes, , they have to cheapen everything up
as time goes by !

Thanks
Here is a thought for all of you as my Gunsmith once mentioned to me. Find an old model for sale and have a new barrel put on, glass bedded with pillars added and you'll have a better than new Tikka rifle by far. Also this way you can choose the barrel you want.

Very Nice !

Most of the T-3 Lovers have never owned or shot one of the "Good" Tikkas:(

What's the everyones take on the Tikka T3 Super Varmint in .223?

I was at the local gun shop today and saw one listed for $1800, I wasn't expecting such a high price tag on it.

the butt of the gun just felt like cheap hollow plastic
