Does Tikka ever fill special orders similar to Savages customizing? I would like to purchase a Tikka T3 varmint but with their laminate stock. Any chance the factory would do that? I've been at this stuff long enough to know the answer but just asking for the heck of it.

I recently purchased a Tikka T3 Lite in 204R. Same question as you, so I did a little digging with some ppl I know in the industry.
You can purchase the Laminate Stock seperately & do a simple swap out. Seems Tikka stocks are one-and-the-same and one will fit everything regardless of short or long action or caliber. Here`s the kicker... The Laminate stock is worth approx $675 retail to purchase new
Needless to say, I didn`t pursue this any further..

funny, that's sounds exactly like the response from the factory a person would expect. My thoughts were that if I wait a year they will likely come out with a laminate varmint in the future. But who can wait! Besides, for that price I know you could buy a McMillan or Manners for the action. Still, I'm a fan of laminates.

No worries. I had to pick myself up from the floor when i read that email. The stock alone is just over half the cost of the T3 Lite, so in essence your paying more for the wood then the actual rifle/action.
Oddly Boyds, does not offer their product line to those wishing to do a swap. Initially I did a search on here to see if they ever did, but came up with more than a few rejected/ticked off members that Boyds didn't offer it. Strange considering the amount of T3 owners out there & Boyds reputation/sales of after-market laminate series..

I would consider Stocky's and would have liked to get a classic laminate with the Accublock bed. Unfortunately they don't offer for that action. Several companies stay away from it due to Tikka's recoil lug setup. Delta Tactical and Hinterland shooting supplies offer some great modes for the T3 as well as lug replacements with a stainless part. Maybe I should just get a Remmy and put it in the stock I like.??

Or buy a Cooper Mont Varm for the same price with a wood or comp stock, all bedded and 1/2MOA guarantee...
I say this as I have 5 Tikkas, and after all the tinkering and mods, I have come to realize that Tikkas are expensive to tweak, and that the Coopers aren't that bad of a deal after all! Sold one of my Tikkas to get the Cooper... First group after barrel break in was 0.8" at 200yds with no tinkering - just put scope on and go to range.....

It does get pricey. I've got a costly rig ( HS Precision, US Optics, Near base, etc... ) already and am trying to pull back on the reins. Was going to put a S&B on this new one but may go with a VX-3.
Can't decide on whether to go for a stainless Rem 700, pulled the stock off and order a nice laminate or do the Tikka thing and get a heavier barrel.??

The factory grey laminate stock fit a varmint?
Wouldn't you have to open up the barrel channel?
Another option (if it fits);
Buy your varmint.
Buy a stainless laminate
Swap stocks
Sell the other rifle with the varmint stock, on the EE you might even get a premium over MSRP...
