I am very seriously considering purchasing a T3, but I am somewhat of a "gadget" hunter when it comes to firearms purchases. The more available, the better. I ask the following questions.

1. I am leaning to the 300 WSM. Now, I like versatility in a rifle, but like to have unique calibers. I already have your .303, .308, the .308 being the more versatile, at least I feel that way. In the line of versatilty (good for this animal to that animal) I feel the 300 WSM maybe overkill for some smaller game animals, like deer and pronghorn, but right on par for the larger elk, bear and moose. Is it in fact overkill for the smaller game? If so, any other suggestions/recommendations for caliber?

2. I want DIVERSITY. The selection of accessories seems fairly limited atm. For instance, I like the stock, but would prefer a hogue overmould with adjustable cheek rest, even LOP. Is there anything out there yet? Also, other accessories. I mean, I know of the optilock system w/quick release, and have read many good things about it. But what of larger magazines (I prefer to carry a couple magazines with higher round count as compared to 4 or 5 lower round counts...not a HUGE deal, but one of those added value/convenience things). Can anyone point me in the direction of available accessories and things to come for this series of rifle? Anything...barrels, stocks, magazines, Muzzle breaks etc. One thing I really like with this rifle is the versatility the quick release base system offers, for quick change between reddot/scope for bush hunting/long range. THat's a huge bonus to me.

3. So far I know of SIR and Wholesale sports selling these, but know I've stumble across other links via this sight, but can't find them. Where else can I purchase these? (preferable with online listings). I know there is a retailer whose catalog online consisted primarily of PDF documents. I came across them in my hunt for the Benelli Nova, and they were the lowest priced retailer. I never did purchase that yet, as other things came up. But, would like to find that sight again.

Thanks all!

I would say if you're worried about possibly overkill on the 300WSM you take a look at the 30.06 or possibly the 7mm (Rem or WSM). I would say you should look at what you hunt most, what you mainly want to use the gun for, and then decide from there. Since you already have a 308, I'd say go for something in a .284 calibre.

By the way you're talking a Tikka does'nt sound like the right rifle for you.
There's next to nothing for accessories, clips are pricey and the Optic system is beyond pricey:eek:
Don't get me wrong Tikkas are fine rifles but maybe you should look at Remington, Savage, or Browning if you're looking to really modify a 300wsm but keep the weight down. All three companies have more accesories then a guy can count:)

Cheers!!

Yeah, I think you may be right Scott. I think I am going to lean towards a remington for this round. However, was hoping maybe someone knew of some plans in the works for the tikka accessory wise. Guess I'll just wait and see and fill my addiction with a new Remington 700 for now. Thanks!

yup, and yup.

If you want a 300WSM, get one in a short action. Tikka T3's are all one reciever length. Optilock rings and bases are mega heavy and mega$$, although T3's are drilled and tapped for Weaver bases. Lots of ring options there. A more readly avaliable and durable "quick change" can't be had for the $$ of a Weaver setup. Even Leupold makes quick release rings for it.

Sounds like you need one of these:D

no,..it's not a Remington:p

That price is on the front page of the February issue of the "Canadian Access to Firearms" paper [you do subscribe, don't you?! ;-)] Wholesale Sports in Calgary is listing the Tikka T-3's in .270 Win, blued/synthetic with sights for $599.95. Item #223854 - while quantities last. Good price for a great gun!
