tikka t3's

Was hunting with my 6.5x55swedish Tikka T3 lite last year, shot my 4 point white tail as he ran past me about 75 yards, then ejected the spent casing to jack another in the chamber, and... I had the bolt sitting free of the rifle in my hand!! Turns out when I pulled the bolt back, it sheered the pin that held the bolt release tab in place. Luckily I had my trusty Norc M14 there as well and offered the coup de grace to the deer who had a severed vertebrae in its neck. Was kinda pissed, but brought it back to the store I bought it at, and they sent it away to be fixed, returned it no charge. It could be that I had the 1 out of a million that had a weak part in it, it could have also been my heavy handed way of jacking out the casings.... I am used to my Military bolt actions like the k98 and such... anyhoo, I would still buy another T3 in a heartbeat, still one of the best hunting rigs you can buy in my opinion. Cheers! :)

Oh and BTW, no problem at all with the plastic, pretty tough stuff.
 
Broke the bolt shroud on mine after cycling my fourth shot. Cycled the bolt, heard a crack and the shroud snapped in half. No abuse, it was benched at the range at the time.

Called Stoeger, took then almost 9 months to send me a new shroud free of charge. After looking at it for that long without it, I came to the conclusion I like it better without that POS plastic piece anyways.

Ive had no problem with the mags.
 
No problems here in.223. Still breaking it in... less than 50 shots. Very accurate, light weight and one hell of a good shooter.
 
About 500 rounds down my .223 varmint - ZERO issues. The mags look cheap, but they're indestructable!

I never have a problem with single feeding rounds either, and it sounds like some do. I just chuck it in the ejection port, and slide the bolt forward - don't need to 'throw' it into the chamber like some have reported....
 
The bolt shroud on mine cracked a few years ago, but that has been the only issue with my T-3. I called Stoeger Canada and they mailed me a new one within a week. Their # is (905) 436-9077.
 
Replaced

Well after posting here on the 31 of October I decided to e-mail Stoeger Canada and ask for info about replacing my broken shroud. Today I received a new one in the mail and I didn't even get an e-mail reply yet.

That type of customer service keeps me looking at getting another Tikka T3, this time a 223 light stainless.
 
Mine is still fairly new, but I pounded it all over the mountains this season (it makes a fairly passable walking stick when trooping up/down the steep/nasty slopes of the rocky mountains!), sparing it no abuse.

No broke parts (though I did bang up the stock pretty good already), and I had it at the range last week - still perfectly zero'd, and still shooting groups at 255 yards that most guys would be happy with at 100.

I'm sold!
 
All is good with my T3. Don't ever think plastic parts don't hold up. Take a look at all the modern military rifles. Loads of plastic. Canadian C7 mags are plastic and good enough for the military. I doubt we can get rougher than that.

At least if you break the shroud, it comes free to replace.
 
My Lite Stainless is pretty new but no bolt shroud or mag problems.
It's a 9.3x62 and is shooting well.
Belts you in the chops off the bench though. :(
 
Mines fairly new with about 150 rounds down the throat. No problems what so ever with the bolt shroud and lots of confindence with the magazine.

Many so-called experts out there have so-called opinions about plastic and it's 'quality'. No one is giving facts about plastic and why it is so unreliable - it is merely opinion based on preference and bias. The plastic is not an issue I believe. If it so unacceptable and to be avoided, why is it reliable enough for many thousands of police officers to trust their life to every day across North America and Europe by way of a Glock and now many other pistols on the market?! Not to mention the military that uses plastic in their firearms - what tougher use can you get than that? Get over the plastic issue, it's proven, it's functional and effective! Move on!
