Tikka t3x ace target vs the world of custom rifles

nothing, buy the ace 👍
I built up a target rifle with the Bergara Premier Pro, heavy barrel. 6.5 creedmoor. MDT rings, Arkansas EP 5 5x25x56. Trigger Tech Diamond, flat blade. MDT parts build-up
Its fun. Any day can be great, and then the next day, ...wtf ? Im working on setting up my shop as a reloading station. It will be fun messing around with ballistics. Better quality parts than factory. Lapua/Hornady. Berger 140g/Hornady match 140g

From my own personal experience, and having owned many Tikka rifles, they are some of the most - if not THE most - precise factory rifles made. Without hesitation, I tell all new shooters wondering where to start, to look at Tikka. I have not held this gun, but on reputation alone I would say it is a damned fine unit as it sits. You can think about a barrel upgrade later, but the rest of the rig is just fine. FWIW, I have guns for which I have multiple barrels. I have a barrel vice mounted on a trailer hitch bar and can do barrel swaps in minutes at the range. When you have good glass and a good chassis you are limited only by the bolt face when it comes to what calibres you want to have on hand.

I’d get a tikka with a plastic stock and then change out the stock to a krg or mdt xrs or other chassis.

T3x Lite is $1150 but has a pencil barrel
T3x CTR Compact has a semi-heavy barrel at $1650

Add a good chassis to the CTR like the XRS ($810) and you are above the $2325 MSRP for the Ace Target which has a heavy barrel.

I’m looking at the tikka t3x ace target with the 26” barrel in 6.5 creedmore it looks like it’d cost about $2600 before taxes. What would you buy and or build around that price point?
Dante Sports, who is a sponsor on this site, you can try and order through them.

How do guys like the ace target chassis? How does it stack up next to an mdt acc? One of my shooting buddies was asking about them. I saw one at the range one day and wasn’t really impressed by it. Do they still take the $240 magazines? And I don’t think they come with a brake?

Another possible upgrade is to swap out the trigger group, fairly easy to do in a Tikka. Triggertech makes a nice one as of recently.

Doesn't include a muzzle break. The magazines are pricey. The price of the chassis weights will make you cry harder, almost $1/g. Wild.

Still, current stock (or lack thereof) notwithstanding, they make tons of parts available.

The chassis is fine for what it is. I don't like the front piece of plastic on the lower m-lok / arca handguard, but meh. I thought I'd like the push button comb more than I do. It's finicky.

Still very happy with it overall. It's consistent, so I can stay focused on my lack of skills and not worry about the tool.

Definitely considering the trigger tech upgrade. I just wish they made the Rough Diamond for the Tikka in addition to the Diamond.

I think they’re probably the best value rifle on the market to get started. The ####ty part is when you figure out exactly what you want, nothing on the ace is probably going to be compatible. In a year or two you have to sell the whole rifle and build a custom, or ditch the chassis, barrel, trigger and be stuck with a tikka action and find a tikka chassis. That’s where I’m at anyways, lol.

It’s far easier to move remington compatible parts than tikka.

I think if you get to that point you could Start collecting parts over time to build your new rifle and then sell or keep the tikka as a backup. They don’t seem to be depreciating much (maybe a bit more a few years down the road). There still are parts available for the t3x if you want to stick to that action instead of going custom. Trigger tech makes triggers, mdt makes compatible chassis etc…

I have a tikka t3x lite in 308
