Tikka T3X Canadian Special Edition.

We had several company gun marine magnums at helicopter camp a few years ago, they were all rather corroded basket cases, as they’d been signed out of pilots and frequently fired flares and bangers without cleaning. Bores looked like sewer pipe.

I've got a dozen or so here for cleaning right now in exactly that condition. Rain, sleet, fog, temperature cycling across the dew point, salt spray, and cracker shells, followed by little to no maintenance, leaves them in pretty much the condition you describe. I can usually get them back into shape though through the use of a bore brush wrapped in copper mesh spun on a drill, an hour or so in my ultrasonic cleaner set at full power, followed by a half hour hot oil bath, copper anti-seize thread compound, and a very thin film of Lubriplate 130A on sliding surfaces. At $50 a gun I doubt they realize what value they're getting.

Cool. Good to know. I didn't know that about 304.

My Remington Model Seven XCR is made completely of 416. Remington boasts it's corrosion resistance. I assumed it would be best

The XCR has what Remington calls their Trinyte finish. I assume yours is the original xcr that has a slight goldish hue - like electroless nickel. If so it’s extremely tough. I haven’t messed with a second Gen xcr with the black finish to know how it is, but I can’t see it being more durable than the original xcr finish.

It is indeed. Love it
