So thanks to all the input from the great people on this forum I have narrowed my search for a 1000+ yard target/hunting rifle to the two options in the title, the Tikka T3x CTR and the Bergara B14 HMR both in 6.5 creedmoor. Basic overview of what I want to do is ring steel at 1000 for fun but also be able and reach out and make effective long range hits while hunting (have family on the prairies and may do a few antipope hunts so 500-800 yard shots are not unheard of). In all the research I have done these two rifles seem to be split down the middle as far as people saying which is the better option. I will break it down below here.
Tikka T3x CTR:
20” or 24” options in stainless or blued
Tikka tried and true, smooth as silk action
Adjustable trigger down to 1.5 or 2 lb
Enlarged ejection port for ease of loading single rounds
70 degree throw on bolt instead of 90
Bolt handle easily removed at home and can be changed to many different styles
7.3 Lbs I believe
Written, tested and guaranteed 1 MOA rifle
Most chassis producers make chassis for the Tikka action
When searching for video reviews there is multiple that have “shooting to 1000+” in title (not a feature I know but it’s something that always comes up when researching this rifle in videos or written reviews)
Bergara B14 HMR:
22” barrel
Basically a remmy 700 action so lots of support and is a nice smooth action
Adjustable trigger 2.5-3.5 lb I believe
90 degree throw on bolt
Takes common and cheaper magazines (Tikka mags are proprietary and are $100+)
9.2lbs I believe
The stock is adjustable and has a bedded aluminum mini chassis
Said to have a 1 MOA guarantee but I have not seen that written anywhere
All reviews seem very positive, said the shoot clover leaves at 100 yards but the farthest I have seen a review reach out to is 900 yards (no videos or written reviews have “1000+ yard” in title that I saw)
Both rifles are priced pretty much the same so price does not play a big roll here. I’m sure I can’t go wrong with either as both rifles are able to out shoot my skill set as it is right now. What are your thoughts? I am leaning more towards the Tikka because of the 2lb weight difference for walking around hunting all day but the Bergara stock is way nicer and would not need a a chassis upgrade (not saying the Tikka would NEED one either but it would make bench shooting nicer). I do not have a bunch of cash to throw around and it has taken awhile to save up for this purchase so I want to make sure I make the right choice. Thanks in advance!
