So thanks to all the input from the great people on this forum I have narrowed my search for a 1000+ yard target/hunting rifle to the two options in the title, the Tikka T3x CTR and the Bergara B14 HMR both in 6.5 creedmoor. Basic overview of what I want to do is ring steel at 1000 for fun but also be able and reach out and make effective long range hits while hunting (have family on the prairies and may do a few antipope hunts so 500-800 yard shots are not unheard of). In all the research I have done these two rifles seem to be split down the middle as far as people saying which is the better option. I will break it down below here.

Tikka T3x CTR:
20” or 24” options in stainless or blued
Tikka tried and true, smooth as silk action
Adjustable trigger down to 1.5 or 2 lb
Enlarged ejection port for ease of loading single rounds
70 degree throw on bolt instead of 90
Bolt handle easily removed at home and can be changed to many different styles
7.3 Lbs I believe
Written, tested and guaranteed 1 MOA rifle
Most chassis producers make chassis for the Tikka action
When searching for video reviews there is multiple that have “shooting to 1000+” in title (not a feature I know but it’s something that always comes up when researching this rifle in videos or written reviews)

Bergara B14 HMR:
22” barrel
Basically a remmy 700 action so lots of support and is a nice smooth action
Adjustable trigger 2.5-3.5 lb I believe
90 degree throw on bolt
Takes common and cheaper magazines (Tikka mags are proprietary and are $100+)
9.2lbs I believe
The stock is adjustable and has a bedded aluminum mini chassis
Said to have a 1 MOA guarantee but I have not seen that written anywhere
All reviews seem very positive, said the shoot clover leaves at 100 yards but the farthest I have seen a review reach out to is 900 yards (no videos or written reviews have “1000+ yard” in title that I saw)

Both rifles are priced pretty much the same so price does not play a big roll here. I’m sure I can’t go wrong with either as both rifles are able to out shoot my skill set as it is right now. What are your thoughts? I am leaning more towards the Tikka because of the 2lb weight difference for walking around hunting all day but the Bergara stock is way nicer and would not need a a chassis upgrade (not saying the Tikka would NEED one either but it would make bench shooting nicer). I do not have a bunch of cash to throw around and it has taken awhile to save up for this purchase so I want to make sure I make the right choice. Thanks in advance!

I just put a bell and Carlson stock on my CTR put the price up $500 ( used price ) so $1800 ish

IF the Bergara shoots as good it seems a better deal ( seems the Bergara comes with a stock comparable to the B&C )

P.S . - changing the stock did "0" for accuracy , including off bipod - but it didn't need to - and it is noticeably heavier with the B&C

I’ve had both in 6.5 Creedmoor. I liked the Bergara better. AICs mags is a big plus. The Sako mags are crazy expensive. Also the adjustable cheek piece and flush cups for QD sling are nice features. Better trigger on the Tikka, but the Bergara takes standard Rem700 triggers, so that can be fixed if you decide to upgrade later.

I guess the Tikka was technically more accurate, but we’re talking 1/4 MOA vs. 1/2 MOA so I didn’t really care either way.

Ok so if you took the price of the magazines out of the equation and put the Tikka in a MDT ESS chassis would you still choose the Bergara? Also having owned both which one would you grab to take on a walk about hunt? The Tikka ships with a10 round mag while the Bergara ships with a 5 so I would buy a second mag for the Bergara but 10 rounds is enough for me in a row so I don’t think I would buy a second one

Just to clarify, the question is would I take the Bergara HMR or the CTR in a ESS chassis? I guess In that situation I would say the Tikka, but at that point it’s going to cost several hundred dollars more. If I were to take one out hunting then I probably would take the stock tikka simply because it’s lighter and shorter.

Both are awesome rifles. I just like the set of features the Bergara has from the factory

Not to answer for JDM, but will add my input. I owned a Bergara hunter (wood/blue) for a short term and found it to be a touch heavier than I liked for hunting, though it was a very nice rifle. I still own a Tikka T3, and find it pretty hard to beat.

I have both, they are both excellent out of the box rifles and can be used as is with no mods. The Bergara has a better factory stock, but the Tikka has a better everything else. My choice would be a Tikka CTR 24” and upgrade the stock down the road if you have to.

Thanks for all the reply’s. I think I am going to go with the Tikka CTR in 24”. My big game rifle is a Tikka T3 as well so I know the brand and like it. The biggest thing for the Tikka is the stock is not as nice as the Bergara but I was planning on buying a MDT ESS chassis for my current T3 anyway so I figure by the time my skills are up to the point where upgrading to a chassis would be required to get that last bit of performance I will have the money saved for one anyway. I don’t think you can go wrong either way but I do want to take this rifle hunting so the weight savings of the Tikka will be huge.

My choice was the Tikka CTR - but I also went with a 20" because it will be more for hunting than long range shooting, and it also weighed less than the B14
