Tikka T3X -- Disappointed...

For $500.00 or even less, you could buy yourself a Mauser 98/ 96 in .30-06 or 6.5x55 Swede out of TradeEx ( on here) and have $ left over to get ammo with or a scope !!!

Seen some for sale on trade ex for as low as $295. New and shiny they are not but perfectly functional they are. And they aren't made from cheap plastics either.

Following. I've been looking at getting my first hunting rifle but can't justify spending $1200. I'm leaning towards a $600 norinco m14.

Decent rifle in a stand or blind, but who wants to lug around a 12 pound rifle when hunting? Get a hunting rifle if you are gonna go hunting. Like mentioned already, trade-ex has wicked deals for SOLID old-world rifles made out of just 2 ingredients WOOD and STEEL. If you haven't hunted before, or have not shot a round like the 30-06, maybe start lighter in the recoil department and look at a great Moose remedy in a low recoil round like a 6.5x55 Swede. It has dropped thousands and thousands of moose, and I know 2 guys up here that have dropped several monster moose with a regular 160gr roundnose bullet in an old as dirt sporterized Swedish mauser they bought for around $250.
I just bought a Winchester EW Model 70 and it is dozens of times better than the Tikka for not much more, and sometimes if you can find them less. Be sure to shop around and come back here and ask if it is a solid choice.

I bought one of the T3 Hunters when they were on clearance a couple of months ago and saved over $500. I know some dealers still have old T3's in stock at a discount.

I would not recommend one of those for a first hunting rifle. They are heavy, don't scope well and handle like a baseball bat.

I once bought a Norinco M305 (M14 clone) for hunting, used it once at the range and proptly sold it for the above reasons. Never did hunt it. You can do a LOT better with $600 on the EE than one of those.

Funny, this mirrors my experience too.
I will say one thing, I had no trouble selling it quickly..

I wanted to purchase a T3 CTR in .308 and could not find any as they kept being sold out for the past 2 years was able to get a T3X CTR for 100.00 less than the old version so luckeed out and have all the new features for less than last years model. You just have to shop around.
