Hey folks I just ordered the MDT ESS chassis for my tikka t3x my question is will the mdt polly mags work fine with this chassis or should I go with the steel ones? Do the mdt mags hold up well? I'm new to the chassis game and the ai pattern mags.

They're not as good as the magpul 10 rounders.
The mdt's have difficulty loading to a full ten rounds, and I found were more prone to jamming.

Ok good to know. I was told my mdt that the AI metal mags give troubles in this chassis. I'll be shooting 178gr a max for the time being so hopefully internal mag length will be ok

That's disappointing.

I'm looking at buying one of these stocks and I really wanted 10 round mags that I can load a little longer than the standard 2.800". :(

In my TAC21 I ran the steel AICS mags in 5 and 10 rounds using 178 gr. Amax bullets at 2.800" with no issues what so ever.

I have seen and handled the new ESS chassis, but I don't know if there is a change to the mag well dimensions.......

The first Gen 10 round MDT polymer mags did have an issue with fitting a full 10 rounds. The bodies were made short compared to the steel AICS mags. The 10th round was hard to load into the mag and the mag body would bulge making the mag very hard to insert or not fit at all. I used them as 5 rounders for reliability sake.

I believe MDT has corrected this issue with later runs of their polymer mags.

Hello M4chef,

To clarify the situation with our chassis and magazines, the issue with the T3x is in the receiver cut-out, not our chassis. The T3 does not have this issue.

Some metal AICS pattern magazines will not insert fully into a T3x receiver. Our polymer magazines will, and Magpul AICS Pmags can be fitted, as can any metal magazine.

The ESS in Remington 700 Short Action has been tested and validated with;

- MDT Polymer 223/308
- MDT metal 5 and 10 round
- Magpul AICS Pmags
- Accurate Mag 10 rd 223/308
- Alpha 10 rd 308
- AI 10 rd 308

In addition, the magazine well of the ESS has been relieved, and our MDT polymer magazines will insert when loaded with 10 rounds.

I will use this thread for my question if you don't mind.

If I get a MDT ESS for my tikka T3 varmint:

1- which mag will work?

2- What length forend do you recommend for a 24in barrel?

thank you

Sorry to hijack but I have a question on mags as well. I am thinking of going with. A t3x Ctr (308) in its original stock for the time being.. I've been reading some posts online that say the mdt polymers will work in it. Is this true? Tikka mags are 180-220 bucks apiece. I hope it's true but wanted to confirm. Saw the claim on a few different boards

Poly mags will work but if you reload and like to seat longer you may have problems with them being to short for your bullet. I use the steel ones from Coretac Solutions for my .308 they'll except a cartridge out to 3.055" in length. If you don't reload......Nevermind...

Do these mags work for 308 without modifications?
