Hey All-

I'm thinking of adding a Tikka T3X Lite Roughtech in 300WSM or 7mm for moose. I'm wondering if any forum members have one and how the muzzle break helps with recoil/ performance.

Thanks!

I used to have one in 300wm that had a factory brake. It was nice but was picky about the bullets. The magazine also restricted the OAL of my bullets so i couldnt seat them further.

The brake did help reduced recoil though...but even when i shot game with or without the brake i never noticed any difference.

I have a 7-mag T3X with no brake and it's not brutal as it is. Limbsaver #10826 takes the edge out of the Magnum versions. It still comes up and back, but there's a lot of squish to the pad.

7-mag has a COAL of 3.290", but the mag will let you go up to 3.340", maybe a hair more. If your load works well at that length you're in business.

The WSM version is pretty limiting too, but I found it feeds fine out of a regular Magnum magazine and you can replace the bolt stop with a long action bolt stop. At that point you are only limited by the throat.

Thanks. I agree on the recoil when shooting at game, it's the range use before season I'm thinking of. My 5'10" and 170lb frame doesn't exactly eat up recoil like big lads

I'm 5'9" 180 - it's a lot more about practice and working up to the recoil than having a hard limit based on frame size. I'm pretty comfortable with 9.3x64, .375H&H, and .416 Rem Mag. I would honestly recommend shooting off the bench with a sissy pad like the PAST Magnum pad to get used to the dynamics of the rifle under recoil without a brake. When you remove the pad and start practicing from regular shooting positions it'll be "familiar". You really probably won't need a brake at that point. Especially if you stick the Limbsaver on it.
