I've seen a lot of bores with various "levels" of rifling. I just bought a Tikka T3x in .223 rem off the EE and when I checked the bore, it seems that the riffling is very shallow. Specs say 6 groove 1:8, but compared to my Rugers, Savages and CZs, the rifling on this gun seems very shallow. The seller says he shot 25 rounds through it, and the bolt and receiver look like there is little to no wear. Are Tikkas known for this?

I also have ( without measuring) that Tikkas and Sakos appear to have shallow rifling visually and the bore seems to shoot out sooner. This is without scientific testing.

I dunno, look up micro groove rifling, it seems to work, not for everybody but..

A shallow rifling would in my mind create less deformation of the projectile, less backpressure and accomodate heavier loads. Less deformation of the projectile may also give less drag to a rotating projectile, and better BC's.

Just my thoughts, I haven't read anything to back it up.
