Hello,
Anyone shooting this model? In .223, 1/8 twist. Thinking of handloading 69grainers.
I'm thinking of getting one, and would appreciate any first hand reports/feedback. I've already covered info fr the web, Utube, etc. I'm shooting 100-200yds. Planning to use it with a good bipod, high end scope, etc.

Love mine it's a great rifle. I'm using 69 sierra hpbt with lapua brass and n133 not the fastest but has been very accurate out to 300 yards

Hi, I think I have heard of that load combination. How does it group at 100yds? Thx.
 
Typically , the 75g BTHP Hornady Match bullet and Varget is far superior to the 69 SMK at every distance . Well under 1/2 MOA 5 shot groups at 200M and one hole at 100M .
I routinely shoot this combo out to 705 yards with zero issue .

The 75 eldms work very well in my Tikka varmint, but I'm at 1000m elevation. Right now Hornady bullets are the easiest to find, so definitely give the 69s, 73s and 75s a try if you can find some.
 
I have one but not in 223. Mine is in 308 so ballistics will be different, but I can partly answer your question. The build quality and tolerances are pretty amazing for the price. I doubt you could get a better out of the box rifle in that price range. I shot a 0.218 MOA group at 200 yards (0.456”) just a couple days ago while testing some hand loads. My range only goes out to 300 yards but I’ve shot 0.55 MOA consistently at 300. I’ve only done 1000 yards only a handful of times but accuracy was still impressive. I changed nothing but the compensator. Swapped the stock one for a hellfire match. Point is the rifle is fully capable of shooting extremely well, but you need quality ammo. As far as I know 223 is an impressive round when done right. Regardless of caliber, the TAC A1 is fantastic out of the box rifle.

EDIT: reread you post and you handload. If you dial in you load I’m sure you the rifle will perform impressively.
 
Thanks for your comments, Chapstick. Normally, I would go w a 6mm cal., but the one I have come across has an awesome price. And I'm 200yds max.

I only have experience with the Tikka varmint 223. I’m sure the Tac A1 is is also great.
I tried 69gn Hornady, 70gn Berger, 75 ELDM, and 53gn Hornady.
They all worked great with a little bit of load development.

Basically buy whatever you can get for a good price and roll with that. For 200yds even a 53gn HP is plenty.
 
I have found that Nosler Competition match grade 77gr works great (and best so far) on my TAC A1 in .223.

Only thing I don't like about the gun is the darn cost of the TAC-A1 magazines ($210+ after tax EACH)

I use both 69 and 77 gr SMK over Varget with good success.
