Tikka T3x vs Model 70

A lot of great rifle brands out there however if they are not available in stainless I won't buy them for deer hunting. For vermin maybe. I just hate it when the patches come out brown after a day in the rain, that from a de-oiled barrel in the morning. Never happened to a stainless barrel of mine. I have a custom built Mauser however with non stainless barrel and it sits at home even though the design is quite good, even if it is not as not as stiff as a Tikka. Another point that is important to me is that my rifles have central feed, all my bolt rifles are converted to AICS or AI mags, i just prefer the reliability as well as being able to swop mags between my Tikka's, Remmies, a Sako, and a Mauser. All feed perfect. I have one Tikka with CTR mag system but not yet convinced it is as good as the aics. Anything floorplate I won't use.

Not to burst your bubble, but the Win M70 does not use a one piece bolt, the handle/ring with cocking cam cut out is swaged and soldered to the bolt body.
I think the only rifles today under $1000 that use true 1 piece bolts are the Howa/Vanguard rifles.

Yes, I know. I meant the bolt body is one piece as opposed to a floating bolt head. You’re right about the Howa!

Pretty hard to beat a M70. I’ve got 5, 4 are pre64, the other a BACO crf. If I only could own one rifle that’s what it would be.

Any particular reason for this sentiment? You are not the first to recommend floor plates for hunting. Maybe it's me but I hunt in a stand and pulling a mag out has always been my preferred option when moving about.

Hinged floorplate is only less secure than a blind box magazine or single shot. Lets face it, things can get misplaced or lost... worst case scenario. But ergonomics in carrying are a factor that most seem to overlook: for this reason the hinged floorplate (or blind box) remains the classic magazine style for a repeating hunting rifle. Most magazines protrude to some degree: while the trigger guard is close to the grip and is a non issue, protruding magazines will stick in your back when rifle is slung or bulge into your hand while carrying. These reasons also dictate why a regularly carried hunting rifle has a very old standard for stock styles: thumbhole stocks are horrible for long carrying. But as you note, the short walk to a stand and sitting... carrying ergonomics matter little: you spend the day walking up and down hills, through brush etc. these seemingly tiny details add up to comfort or discomfort. And the final note: no matter how you look at it, a detachable magazine always lacks the clean aesthetic lines of a fixed mag at least in the one piece stock of a bolt action: the two piece semis and pumps evade that criticism.

I prefer hinged floor plates myself, however many rifles with removable magazines have clean lines, Browning X bolt and BLR, Savage 11 and 111, Sauers, Sako 75s and 85s. to name a few, I don't think any of these protrude more than a hinged floor plate.

Each to their own on floor plates, blind mags and detachable mags. For hiking all day I only load and unload once so I prefer a blind mag, nothing to lose and my main concern is rifle weight. For those reasons, I prefer kimber rifles.
