So I bought myself a new rig for my B-day...I have put about 4-500 rds through her over the last week or so...I keep her very clean and all that stuff...I have been experiencing 'duds' with Winchester white box .223 and some feeding issues also. For example it seems the bolt does not 'shuck' a round into the chamber every time...I guess the approx. misfeed is around 3 rounds out of 40 rounds...The 'dud' count is about the same (winchester white box only and I re-tried each round after waiting the 60 seconds or so)I tried some Remmy and Federal ammo and the mis-feed count is about the same and no duds...I am wondering if I am doing something wrong or do I have bigger issues...I have to believe this gun is good as it gets out of the box and am a bit frustrated.

Any advise is appreciated as I am a bolt gun noobie..

Happy St. Patty's CGN'ers!

I tried the white box 62 gr. 223 in my T3 Varmint just last weekend. While it fed and fired the ammo without any problem, the grouping was 2-3”. Unfortunately I have over 400 round rounds on hand.

I have heard it from a Tactical owner from our club that the spring in some magazines were installed incorrectly and would cause feeding problems. Perhaps you should take a look at yours.

Can't help you with the duds. Do you have firing problems with other ammo or handloads?

Yes make sure that your bolt is not contacting the cheek piece. May not be a problem on the .223 but it is on my 6.5.

That may not be good on the wood/composite finish, I don't understand "bolt contacting the cheek piece" has to do with mis-feed or mis-fire. Please explain.

I have the Varmint model non adjustable cheek piece. Well its just held on with a screw so I raised it up by putting a piece of foam insulation under it, about an inch thick. With the cheek piece raised up, the rear portion of the bolt(cocked indicator) would hit the cheek piece before the bolt was cycled fully to open postion. This also made it impossible to remove the bolt. The rifle will mis-feed because the bolt will not clear the case head of the next round in the mag. This may not be a problem with the shorter .223 case but with the long 6.5x55 case it was.

I just moved the cheek piece farther back on butt stock, not done in this pic yet.I hope that was understandable?

Thanks for your answer. I have same rifle except I have a matt scope sitting on it.

How did you take the cheek piece off and what do you use to secure it again? Any close-up pictures? I wouldn't mind trying something like this to get a perfect fit.

Right on top in the middle is a small round plug, under this plug is a phillips head screw. You guessed it remove screw cheek piece will pull off. I just drilled a new hole about 2 inches back from that and screwed it back down. With piece of styrofoam insulation (sp?) between it and the stock.
