I have been testing my Tikka T3 Tactical in .308 with several types of factory ammo to see its preferences. My Tikka has had no mods and has a 4.5-14x50 Zeiss Conquest on it. I would have to say that my Tikka is a little picky, but it has very good potential with its preferred loads. From worst to first, here are the results for 100 m (approximately 110 yards):
6) Remington 180 gr. Corelokt: 2.5" -- horrible!!!
5) Federal 150 gr. Grand Slam: 2"
4) Federal 180 gr. Hot-Core: around 0.75" to 1" with the best group being a very acceptable 3/8"
3) Winchester Super-X 125 gr. (obsolete load): consistent 0.75"
2) Federal 168 gr. Matchking HPBT: 0.5" to 0.6" consistently with the best group being an excellent 0.45" at 220 yards (200 m) -- it's nice when you can cover a 200 m group with a penny!
And the winner (so far):
1) Federal 165 gr. Sierra Gameking: 0.2" to 0.5" which isn't half bad for factory hunting ammo!
My general comments on the rifle are that it has a very nice crisp trigger, the action is smooth and it feeds reliably. The adjustable cheek piece and length of pull are good features and I like the swivel attachments on the side of the stock. It is also a bonus they factory threaded the barrel and put on a picatinny rail. Very good rifle.
