I had a chance to fondle a Tikka Tactical the other day at a local shop and it seemed pretty nice for a factory job. Anyone have/had one? I'm wondering what your feelings of it being a good "starter" long range gun.

I have a Tikka T3 Tactical in .308. It was the first gun I bought after several months of investigation.

The first day I took it to a range I shot three bullets into one hole at 50 yards and a group of .6 MOA at 100 yards.

I have a Nikon Monarch X scope with Badger Ordnance rings and a Harris bipod on the gun. It's about $400-500 more expensive than the Remington 700 Police but its much better quality out of the box.

Here's a good review: http://www.snipercentral.com/tikkat3.htm

Helped set up a Tikka Tactical w/ big ass muz. break , for a buddy ; "Navy Gunner " on this site last year. Up to then had seen & been impressed with the performance of some of the hunting class rifles around the range .
This one , after i "forced " Navy G. do the painstaking shoot & clean, clean thing to break her in. She was just a Tac Driver ! .5 inch 100 yd. groups with .308 Gold Cross Match ammo.
What makes a 1/2 inch group so impressive? --- This gun was out of the gate not bedded , factory trigger,& an accurate ammo load had not been worked for it !
I 'll let N. Gunner brag about that later.

I guess its time for my 2 cents :p
My first rifle was a TikTac in .308 win. Great gun out of the box. Was getting groups .438-.401" at 200m with 150grn Federal FMJBT. I picked up a Remington XCR TLR in .308 a month later and I had groups of .155-.003" ( yes .003", they all went through the same hole!!!) @ 200m with the same batch of 150grn Federal FMJBT. Needless to say I sold the TikTac and spend the money on making the remington even better.
Both are great rifles, but if you are looking to make them better than stock I would go for the remington 700 as it has much more aftermarket following.

I've already got a Rem 700 in the safe and it shoots pretty well for me, but I was really liking the TikTac's features. I was shown a couple 200m cloverleaf groups that was shot with it and was impressed.

I was considering the TikTac again in .223 with the 24" barrel. It is Christmas after all. I guess I should treat myself :p

I shot this with my 22-250, out-of-the-box with Walmart ammunition

And just last weekend, I shot this

These rifles shoot pretty good, I am hoping to get this under 0.5 with handloads.

My results aren't as good as the others, but I am certainly happy.

I'd also consider the stainless Varmint and Super Varmint models. Much cheaper, available in a much larger range of calibers, and essentially the same rifle without the threaded muzzle or scope rail.

Popcan, A TAC stock for the T3 in two colours (your choice) with a cheek adjuster, Decel pad, two studs, new recoil lug fitted, inletted, drop in and go shoot is $745.

Sorry meany to be a cooment on the German made Tikka stock. Nice looking unit but very expensive.

I figure the german stock at 630 euro. The best exchange in the past few months was about 1.50 add shipping, duty and gst and I'd say you are looking at 1200 on a good exchange dAy.
