Tikka vs browning x-bolt

This is gonna be a gun I plan to shoot for a looong time and fairly often at the range for now and eventually in the field. 30-06 which should be good to get me into hunting. dont like buying stuff without asking the crafty folks around here

tikka= good value, accurate, light.

X-bolt= nicer safety, prettier gun, supposedly accurate? better looking



Im thinking wood not because its smart just because id rather have a beat up wood stock than a synthetic one in good shape.

what does everybody think of these?
 
Agree with everything you've said there.

Although I have no first hand experience with the Tikka, a close friend who's been guiding for many years says the T3 is his favorite hands down. Mainly due to the beating it will take.
 
No offence meant, but were I shopping for a wood/blued 'classic' rifle, I'd look else where. Tons of rifles out there for the same or a little more dollars. Winchester, Ruger, even Remington offer wood stock rifles with no plasti.... eerr, ah, composite involved.

Hard to go wrong nowadays, long as a fella stays away from the 710/770/4x4s of the gun world. Good luck!
 
For the money, pick up a Savage 114 American Classic in 30-06.. nice wood, accu trigger, great rifles.

The reason I'm thinking tikka is i hear they're amazing shooters and I'll probably get alot more range time on it than hunting time.

I think youll be happy with either. I already have an A bolt and love it, and would have no qualms with picking up another browning. But I havent owned a Tikka, so I may try one for the fun of something new. With the flip down floorplate/mag on the A bolt I found it really easy to load while its sitting on a bench actually, because the floorplate holds the mag in position so you can press ammunition into it one handed, and not have to move from the rifle to reload it.

See what shoulders best for you.

yeah this ones coming down to fit i reckon, prolly try the weatherby vanguard and cz 550 out as well.

I have the savage light weight hunter and a tikka T-3. I like the savage better mainly because it weights less than 6lbs... 5.5lbs to be exact. But the tikka feels really nice and is a great shot. As far as money goes, they are about the same... I love th
 
That Savage 114 classic is just that a classic! nice length affordable price and a great shooter, I have one in 270. I would sell my Remmington BDL before I sold my Savage
 
Holy crap good idea on starting a x-bolt vs tikka..........just joking :). Both are accurate, I've shot several t3's all accurate, but none as accurate as my x-bolt. You have to go check em out, and then you'll know. X-bolt comes in a short action, and has a 26" pipe on the regular mags. Some guys like that, I don't that's why I went short mag and got the 23" pipe.
 
Luv my xbolt 30-06 and T3 223 hunter, both more accurate than me, easily 1moa at 100yd.

Slight preference for xbolt, just feels better. For 223 get xbolt, don't like long action for short cartridge.
 
I have owned alot of guns and I was never a big fan of the Tikka T3 until I bought one, very smooth action and yes it's a long action & I shoot .223 I have own 2 Tikka's and both are great. I can shoot under a .380 of an inch groups with it on hand loads & under 1.5" group with cheap store bought ammo.

Now I was a long time Remington 700 & Savage HB fan until I bought the Tikka T3, I'm now looking for a 3rd Tikka for hunting.
 
I was faced with this same dilemma a month ago. I had my heart set on a 30.06 T3 Lite but at the store I looked at a few Remington 700s , X-Bolt walnut stock, and other 30.06 they had. I wanted a detachable mag so the 700 were out. Honestly I could not decide for an hour. I finally chose the X-bolt because it was heavier and would absorb recoil better. It was slightly cheaper. I trust Japanese manufacturing and QC. The X also has 4 hole pattern mounting for scope but I dunno if that really make a difference. The walnut stock also has that classic appeal.

One gun I wish I could have seen is the Ruger American. Magazine article had good reviews. Hard to come by here though.
 
Ive had a number of T3's and never once had a an issue. Never had a bolt shroud shatter or trigger guard snap, hell even the plastic mag was driven over by my Ford and just pushed into the ground.
I see you purchased the X-Bolt, they look and feel quite nice. I think Tikka had such a big chunk of sales these past 4 years that everyone needed to up their game in the econo rifle market. Vanguard II's, Ruger Americans, X-Bolt ect... all look like good rifles at affordable prices.

my tikka has been a joy to shoot on and off the range . 300 wsm has dropped moose and bear with one shot and tack drives at the range. my shaky self with a rest of course

weight/odd calibre. you may though

went and fondled some today. the tikka really is superlight, wow. feels flimsy as hell.

the vanguard feels chunky but I really like the stock.


browning x bolt= fit, not light enough to feel cheap and not heavy enough to feel too heavy- just right. wood looks gross though IMO

sakko A7 has same safety as feature as browning, stock felt way nice than the tikka
