I'm looking for a .308 to try LR shooting. I was thinking of a T3 Tacticial but I noticed on the EE they don't seem very popular, but there are sure a lot of Remmington's. Is this this do to the pricing of Tikka compared to Remmington or is Tikka not as accurate ? Any input would help.

for an out of the box rifle i would recomend a savage, they have a great accuracy reputation, just over 1/2 price of the tikkas, and IMO the tigger is much nicer

but if its coming down to tikka or remington i would go with the tikka, i have the 700 5r, and its a great shooter, but out of the box the trigger sucked

For a rifle where you don't intend any changes and tweaks, the Tikka is a superb rifle. I have seen too many shoot very well to doubt that is not part of their manf.

Savage has been on a roll these last few years and are making great rifles FOR A US FACTORY RIFLE. The options are easy and pretty much limitless with new toys showing up all the time. The consumers are voting with their wallet and Savage is taking a huge market share out of Rem Country.

So if upfront cost is limited AND you are willing to do a little (or have someone do this for you) TLC, Savage is the platform I recommend. Future changes are easy.

If you want plug and play, Tikka is really hard to beat.

Rem will continue for a very long time to be used in all sorts of competition rigs. With some judicious work, they provide a superb shooting rifle and they dominate the aftermarket. There are certainly no shortage of rifles shooting at the pinnacle of precision competition using some variant of the Rem 700. They just need a whole lot of TLC.

Pick your poison and go have fun... Do consider the 223 especially if you lean towards the Tikka. 8 twist and 80gr Amax/Bergers resolve most LR needs :)
