Hey guys~closing in on my next rifle purchase, likely a Tikka...but I'm in no rush. Popular guns, good value, etc... Is there a time of year Tikka's go on sale as a rule, or does it depend on the dealer only? I know some manufacturers offer incentives at certain times of the year, but I've never bought a Tikka.

Looking at a varmint in 204 Ruger, and I know the next question will be; "what rings to use?" Scope is a 30mm tube, 50mm OBJ. Do Tikka's required specific rings, or is there a base that clamps on to (what looks like) a dovetail on the receiver of those guns?

Thanks!

The factory dovetail is useless here as the matching rings clamps are very expensive. I use tally rings that screws on to the top and so far it is ok.

The Tikka dovetail fitting coupled with a Spuhr one piece mount is possibly the strongest and stiffest combination that you can achieve on any rifle.
Second best on a T3 is to properly fit a rail then fit the Spuhr mounts on that. My T3's all have rails just to be able to swop scopes around quicker. I also have a few remmies etc.

I put Talley one piece combination mount/rings on my Tikka rifles. The low mounts are fine with a 40mm scope on my older 595 BATTUE and T3x BATTUE with factory open sights. Don't hesitate to buy a Tikka used.

I wish I’d kept my tikka varmint 204. The first reload batch was less than 1/4” at 100 yards and the Cooper 204 took allllllll summer to find a decent load. Tikka is a good rifle when your going factory built

Dante has Varmints on sale didn't list any .204s though maybe give them a call and see if they can get you one at the sale price. Cant go wrong with the Tikka Varmints I have two, one in .223 and .308 both are great rifles.

My T3 .270 has the Optilock rings and bases. They're a bit pricey but as solid as can be. First ammo I tried shot a .75" group at 100 yards and has stayed just as accurate for 4+ hunting seasons without a single click of adjustment.

lol...we're kindred spirits. My first, and only Cooper was a Model 51 in 204, and I had nearly the same experience. I even got desperate enough to contact Cooper and squeeze the load data out of them that they shot the test target with. lol BTW, that load didn't shoot worth a damn. (?) Anyhow, I think it was about 5 bullet types and 4 different powders to get it where where it should be. I'm not an expert loader, but careful/meticulous...and I get good results. My first loads for my Savage .223 were sub-MOA...so this Cooper nearly had me stumped.

Anyhow, I DO hope my Tikka experience is like yours. I've shot 2 x CTRs in the last few years and a buddy's T3 in 22-250 as well. I feel like I shoot them well.

Yep no mo Cooper. For me it’s eother an affordable factory rifle like tikka and cz or a true custom rifle. Tikka is a good gun I’m sure yours will shoot well

I had an unfired 557 30-06 years ago I kinda wish I had it still. Was such a nice rifle. I have a 527 223 which is fun to shoot with peep sights on it. The thing I like about the tikka is you can set it up with aics mags and after market bottom metal. Cz 527 has these tiny cute little mags that are annoying for me to load

DNZ makes a great integrated mount. Cheap and excellent. Or you can on slap bases and rings from any one of a dozen manufacturers. Tikkas are drilled and tapped to take bases as well as having the dovetail. No different than finding bases and rings for a Rem 700. Talley, Leupold, Burris, Weaver, etc etc. Take your pic.

Unless you're jumping it out of an aircraft or throwing it off a truck, any one of the available mounts will do just fine for you.

Best time of year to find a sale is black Friday, if you're in no rush and don't mind the searching. Rifles aren't marked up much, so if you know what you want in what calibre, I'd just go buy it. The odds of finding the exact rifle in the exact calibre you want on sale aren't great. But it depends how long you want to search and wait...

Because a guy asking where to buy a .204 Ruger Tikka on sale is in the market for or has need of a Sphur mount?
