Hi guy I was shooting my T3 in.223 today. About the fifth round I got the plastic bolt shroud in my face. The ammo I was shooting was S&B 55gr. The primer was pierced and that caused the shroud to break off and hit me in the face. Now is their a tikka warranty on this? I know that it is mostly cosmetic but it looks like poop now. Also has any one else had pieced primers from shooting S&B? thanks RF

ive never had that happen. however i have owned a tikka in 3006 and as soon as the plastic on the end of the bolt became loose i sold the rifle. the smooth bolt action is about the only thing i liked on it. the rest of it felt cheap, like a childs toy. no meat. i know that doesnt help, im just sayin..

Call Stoeger, they'll send you a new one. Not the first time this has happened, not likely the last either....

MINE TOO GOT LOOSE AND EVENTUALLY A PIECE BROKE OFF, NOT TO MENTION, the crappy mags(broke one too) anyway sold it for a major loss and never again..........TIKKA= JUNK

I bought one brand new in .223 and found that the threads inside the shroud were broken from the factory. My guess is that the bolt had been dropped when being assembled. It also didn't eject the cases reliably, they would tip when they came out of the chamber and then pop out from under the extractor and drop in the action. That one went back for a full refund and I don't plan to buy another.

Junk Tikka

I'll help some one get rid of their junky Tikka also. Especially if it is at a significant loss and in .223.

It's not plastic.....It's space age polymer, like the magazines, and according to Sako, it is more expensive to produce then metal. Billy Mays had an 18 Wheeler drive over a Tikka Mag. and it didn't break, he added that the shroud could be fixed with "Mighty Putty".

Same thing happened to my 2 Tikka's...I was disappointed to say the least...I agree the rifles feel cheap...but they can be damn good shooters...I repaired both of mine with parts sent from Stoeger and sold them.

Thanks for the input guys I was going to phone Stoeger. I had only bought the rifle a year ago. It has a 1-8 barrel and shoots satisfactory with no complaints. I also have a t3 in .308 that is my main rig. Having that shroud hit me has made me a little nervous, how many of you wear safety glasses in the bush?

I still hate EVERY Remington I have ever owned (rifles and Shotguns) and love my Tikkas but I will keep an eye on the bolt now. (hopefully not get a piece of bolt in my eye)

I would guess with pierced primers and bolts flying apart, you either had a bad bolt or bad batch of ammo. Doesn't a pierced primer sometimes indicate an over charge?

That S&B ammo is very cheap. I was Shooting the same stuff in my Tikka .223 and also pierced a primmer with the same results you had. E mailed stoegers and they sent me a new cover for free. The rifle is awsome just stick with better ammo.
