Tikka's plastic bolt shroud

CZ 550's are modernized Mausers with steel shrouds and vent gas the same way. Nothing has changed there. One hole in the left side of bolt in closed position, another in the right side of the front receiver. Gases deflect out the left side of bolt into the raceway then escape from a slotted opening in the top of the raceway before the rear bridge. The large steel shroud prevents any gas or particles getting past it after that. They also have two solid front locking lugs as the ejector slot is not cut into the left lug like older Mausers, but slotted at the 5 O'clock or so position away from the lugs. The ejector is attached on the bottom of the action rather than the left side. IMO, that should make the CZ 550 bolt stronger and it also has the third lug in the rear.

I've never studied a Cooper yet.

I'm no engineer, but isn't the plastic shroud on the Tikkas a safety concern? How many more times must the shroud break off and hit the shooters face for a simple primer pierce? I guess I won't be considering a T3 for a serious target action after all.

Didnt see this post until now. Usually dont come in the hunting forum. I will find the company name for you. They are making a still shroud to replace the factory tikka one.

Here it is. They dont have them on their website I dont think. Takes about a week to get and is just under the 100 dollar mark I beleive. I will be buying one eventually.

The plastic piece on mine got loose and spun on me a couple of times.
Took it back to wholesale sports in Calgary and surprisingly I got really good service from the gunsmith there (Bob?) who replaced it for me no problem.
That was two years ago and hundreds of rounds later.
Love that rifle. Not a milliseconds' trouble since.

I have had 3 Tikka T-3's .308-.223.-25-250 I load top end loads and have never had any problems. Shooting a good gun with cheap ammo. like S&B is like buying a Porsche and puttin cow crap in the tank for fuel.
My Rem.700 in 35 Whelan is a piece of junk compared to my T-3's but I luv the caliber and it shoots "1.25 moa. so I let it stay.
