I picked up a Tikka T3 Lite 7mm mag with a 3x9x40 scope for moose hunting. It is very very light. The ease of action is fantastic. I like the plastic stock, clips etc. They wont last forever maybe but the weight and ease of action is great. Taking out a moose or elk at under 250 yds should be a breeze

i recently picked up a stainless t3 in 30/06...haven't shot it yet but the smooth action out of the box sold me on it over the 700 sps. both nice guns tho...still thinking about a 700 in 223 for punching paper and maybe the odd yote.

I have a remington 700 sonero coming but SIR back ordered it so it will be another month. The smooth action of the Tikka T3 is amazing
 
I would say 160gr Accubonds infactory Winchester Supreme ammo for your T3 7mmRM.

Tikka makes great rifles as Ihave 2 in the LS models both in 270WSM. I dont like Tikka's synthetic stock so I waited the extra year to 2004 to get the laminate. Now the Sako m75 SS stock is nice.

Ya as great as a gun as the T3 is, the plastic can be a problem. I own a .223 T3 llite stainless and there is a little plastic piece at the back of the bolt. (The bolt shroud) I was cycling the action and the piece cracked and fell off.

After doing some research online, Ive found alot of other people have had this problem. Although minor, you would think they would make the parts that are going to be cycling a lot out of metal.

Other then that, the gun is flawless. Silk smooth action, accurate as hell and light. I love the gun, just pissed of because Stoeger is gonna take forever to send me that little part.

I am sure your grandchildren will like running their tiny little hands over your plastic stocked Savage just as much. Just be careful, the mold lines might cut their soft little hands :D

haha
i picked up the Savage as a beater/trunk gun that i wouldnt have to care about or maintain. a T3 would have worked too, but a stainless was $350 more expensive at the time.

no sharp edges or pokey things -- the Savage stock looks like this now:

i didnt mean to start a Savage/Tikka thing, just

That looks pretty good mbp. :D You use bedliner on the stock?

yeah, i glass bedded it, filled all the checkering with fibreglass, sanded it all smooth, pumped the pistol grip and stock cavities full of expanding foam, bedlinered it then misted it with matte black to dull the shine a bit. its still a cheap stock but at least it feels a bit more solid now.

my first bedliner bubba job :D
 
you most likely wont need a 175 gr bullet for moose, i would go with 150 to 160 and it will work great, 1" high at 100yds should put it close to dead on at 300 depending if your reloading or shooting factory, that means less than a foot at 400 so with practice you should be able to lay the hammer on moose, elk, deer, antelope, etc. at 400 you just need to find out how tall their shoulder is

Looks very good, Im sure it shoots just as good as one fitted with a stock 5x that amount.

It looks great. I have a savage for the same purpose and appears very accurate but the ease of action isnt on par with a tikka and a lil heavier although the Tikka seems to kick more.
