Finally got around to fitting this stock purchased from a fellow CGN'r quite some time ago. It required a bit of hand fitting and there's still a bit of play around the action but seems quite nice! Maybe someday we'll get to try it.
I assume by "hand-fitting" you mean you had to remove some material from the new stock. Is that just a trial and error thing?
What do you do when it's loose around the action? Do you build it up with something like epoxy and then hand-tool it to the fit you want?
Hmmmm, this is also a '51 and belongs to my wife. The 2 rivets holding the cover on the gas tube were a pain. Slow, deliberate drilling was the way. As for the hand fitting, it was mostly in the gas tube area, it fit ok as was, but wanted a "perfect" fit. Ummm, I also gave the area above the safety a few passes with a file to allow full movement of the safety. As for the action, it is able to move up and down within the stock by a mil or 2 as if the spring above the trigger assembly isn't quite allowing things to fully seat. When she allows me to work on it some more, I'll have a closer look.
Well I have to say, that is the BEST looking SKS stock Ive seen, in fact its one of the nicest stocks Ive seen full time.
Congraulations, hope you get it tightened up okay.
