timberwolf 338 snipe tac or 338 lapua AI ????

also a thought in my mined is the tolerance used in the action, this rifle will be hunted with hard week long back packing trips are not uncommon for my hunting party , and cleaning supply's are limited so if snow and dirt gets into it (with in reason) i dont want a custom action built perfectly that wont close anymore cause someone actually used it. that's why timberwolf is my choice , snipers lay in the dirt , hunters lay in the dirt and so on and so forth.

unless im mistaken please inform.

What do you intend to do with the rifle?

Let me share some of my experience.
I have a two 338Edge rifles that I hunt with.
One is 8.5 pounds, the other is 16 pounds...Both had a distinctive purpose, but I am no longer so clear of what was supposed to be.
Under the right circumstances the light rifle (and me) will kill game out to say 600 yards..The heavy rifle was supposed to extend my range, but the reality is that has not happened...

Perhaps I suck at long range shooting, but in the mountains I often find it very difficult to figure out what the hell is going on across the valley.
I guess what I am getting at is (where it comes to hunting) we all have to set our own limits and none of this has much to do with our rifle or caliber of choice.

Least it doesn't for me.

My Remingtons always go bang! :D

I love my Timberwolf and fully expect to get 2000-2500 out of a barrel. This for me would take 4-5 years so no big deal. I have received excellent customer service from Ross at PGW and highly recommend going with the Timberwolf.:D

I do not think anyone builds a benchrest style action for the 338s.
I have hunted all over the world with my 338LAI which is based on a Nesika action, my next 338LAI will be built on a Defiance action as ours are still a little ways off from being on the market.

Yup that there is sand and LOTS of it in the Kalahari desert, the rifle weighs 18 plus lbs so is NOT shot anything but prone, the brake still gives you a nice "sand bath" but if it will work there, it will work anywhere.

A very good point , and i no way was i trying to say your rifles would not do the same, i have had the great pleasure of shooting your 338AI both at my range and in the hills. simply pointing out i liked the comfort of the battle proven rifle. one of my good friends has a 338AI from you. and i may soon as well, i just like the timberwolf .

its like picking your wife in a room full of girls, will you pick the same one every time, probably not, but there all the same, you just go with the one that gets you hard.( can i say that on here?)

ill be honest with you, here in gagetown we have a "few" c14 timberwolves. there are nice but there has been issues. 2500 rounds is about all they are good for then they start to get LESS acurate. some of ours have arrived and were diffrent than the rest(changed machining?) . dollar for dollar they are a very FINE rifle. we have sent our reports to ottawa and since ive think there has been no more issues with these rifles. ive shot them as far as 800 meters and im not a good shot, the guys who use them as part of their work are very good with them and love to u

se them. i just fix them.

thanks for the hands on info very helpfull ,

I have shot 1/4 MOA at 100 meters with the Timberwolf. Okay I lied I went back and looked at my log it was .260" so pretty darn close to 1/4.

whats less accurate mean to you? Alberta tactical will shoot .5 , timber wolf .75 , better in most cases for both i know but just what they advertise. once i put 2500 rounds through something if it still shot 1 minute i would be pleased because in all honesty that all im currently good for, constantly.

H:S:I had Rick at ATRS rebarrel my Rem 700 LA (300WM) in 338 Lapua AI almost 2 years ago and I cannot say anything bad about the cartridge. That was my first 338 LAI, and virtually identical performance from the second one has me NOT shooting my other precision guns.
Neither (338 LAI) gun has jammed or malfunctioned even once, and yes, I have spent a fair bit of time in dust, snow and mud with 'em. It has a bit more velocity than a conventional 338LM, and seems to make a bit of difference in strong wind. (Hey, I gotta justify this somehow;) )http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif
Seriously, a great cartridge, and you can always download for lower pressure (to 338LM specs, as per Ackley originally mentioned, or, as he also pointed out, you could use 338 LM in a pinch, although it wouldn't be the most consistent at that point, and it kind of defeats the purpose.I am guessing you'll be reloading, so a bit of COW fireforming won't be too much grief.
And brass life is good, with virtually no brass growth, and hence, trimming.

I had Rick build me a 338LM on a niesika action and I love it. I spend too many days a year packing it on my quad through mud, muskeg, sand and snow and never had troubles with it yet. Worked great in -25 weather with snotscicles on the action and equally well after I used a stick too scrape the muskeg out of the mag well.

Won't be Sorry with PGW in 338 lapua, that would be the first choice, then the second would be SAKO TRG42.
