Dunno, man - I can understand completely that you love to try different guns, but to me those bobbers look goofy. I thought they were a solution to the problem of carrying a 1911 concealed without having the butt jam into your gut rather than being something practical on a range gun.

I think that I'd personally miss having that metal there when shooting the thing.

I'm not sure why they don't also bob the grip safety on em. You'd think that beaver tail could hang up on clothes or jab anatomy.
 
I dont do that for practicality, i just want to make sure my collection of 1911 iv'e started, represent all the configuration of 1911, if it doesnt shoot good because of the bobtail, it will still be part of my collection as a safequeen... This is win win situation... Just saying. JP.

Yep, the bob was to remove the printing aspect of carry, it also would make a Commander a little lighter I suppose...again for carry. Why would we as Canadians want a bobtail? A: 'cause they're cool! :p

I guess I'm taking a similar approach in finding the 1911 configuration that does everything for me, so far as grip and sights go, but appreciate different aesthetics and often seem to buy based on those.

JP - I made the R1 the victim of my first all out attempt of a trigger job. 2.2-2.6lb release, zero creep. Stock parts. :)

Got to test it today to make sure it doesn't go Dillinger on me lol (he was the one with the FA 1911, right?)

This R1 is a very good shooting 1911, they are a great value... You are closing in on the LB at 2.8 pounds no creep... Lol. JP.
 
I was looking at Baers on their site.... I think I'd love me their hardball gun. Might have to start putting aside a few bucks a month ;)
 
Bobtails? Why do they call them that? Are you referring to the rounded handle? Is that a cosmetic thing or is there a purpose to it? Not to slag anyone's guns...I have just been out of the game for awhile and there have been some new developments while I was away..
 
Bobtails just look and feel better for me. I think a bobtail balances perfectly and helps getting a solid grip. Here's my Nighthawks Custom with all the toys I wanted at the time:

Mr. Lung,

I've had it for about four years. The finish is NHC's PermaKote and has a few minor marks. I used a CR Speed with it for a while for IPSC and the trigger guard shows wear from the holster. Otherwise I would say not badly but the PK finish isn't rated that highly by many. That gun is NHC's Predator II with a bunch of options I chose over the base gun. At this point it would come in at over $4k.

I've been thinking of getting it refinished by one of the top people who uses GunKote which he rates as the best. If I do I may change the colour scheme to something else rarely or never seen as the gun is a beauty queen and I like to play with colours. One possibility is a dark British racing green for the frame and a Burgundy slide. She has two sets of grips now but of course a refinish would involve new shoes too. :)
