Picked up this former 'moosegun'. All matching; screws, stocks, all of it. Completely disassembled and cleaned the old thing: she was a mess. Sling is genuine though not matched to the rifle. Cool that the sling is from the Viennese Security Service. Just discovered the founder of Sauer and I share the same first name; kinda neat.
A new project to "stain my soul". Found a non-matching 'Dot 42' K98k. Oddly, its bolt is milled for scope clearance, though the receiver is intact. Headed for the Intersurplus website and found a Gew.98 sporter with just the right donor optics set up. Started leafing through 'Backbone of the Wehrmacht' and there it was! How could I say no? As a bonus, the scope caps are serial stamped. Possibly legitimate Wehrmacht issue. I have tested the K98 bolt in the sporter. It clears like it was made for it.
I have spoken to Jason and I'm sending them off to Gunco today. Here's hoping it works.
Thank you for that useful bit of information. I will carry on and in the event I find the correct rings, I can desolder the scope and remount it in the correct rings. Just couldn't help yourself but be insulting, could you?
Your critique, piqued my curiosity. I found these images in my library, from German Sniper Rifles, Propaganda Photo Series Vol. VII, S.J. Publicaties BV. They support the use of commercial mounts in military application. My friend #### told me, "Buy a gun, buy a book." The book just paid for itself. I remembered purchasing a Dr. W. Gérard scope a while ago. Happily it comes with the claw mount rings you specified. I'll just have to build another sniper I guess.
Thank you. I am very happy with it. Looking forward to the next project.
(No serial matched, historical artifacts were injured during the making of this replica.)
What happens when you buy things on the internet without pictures? You end up taking the seller's word on it. I bought what was advertised as a k98 bayonet (luckily for cheap) and what showed up wasn't a k98 bayonet. It's clearly a Mauser bayonet of sorts, but with no markings, I'm not sure what it is supposed to be for. Anyone know what I actually received?
