Time for a new 9mm, opinions wanted.

My dear wife has given the green light for a new pistol! I am wanting a semi-auto 9mm in order to reduce the cost of ammo as I currently run a 1911 in 45ACP. I have owned a CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow and while it was a solid gun I am thinking of trying something different this time around. I was leaning towards a Colt Competition 1911 in 9mm as I already have the holster and mag pouches but my research now has me longing after the Walther PPQ Q5 Match. Primary use will be for 3-gun this year. Possibly IPSC production class as well but that is secondary as I intend to shoot in classic. My only concern going with the Walther is the availability of extra mags and also I can't seem to find much in the way of holsters and mag pouches (maybe my Google-Fu is just weak right now from too much holiday turkey). Looking for your opinions on this matter and I am also certainly open to any other suggestions. Is there anything else I should be considering that is in the same price range?
 
I have no limits on the money i can invest on a pistol and i bought some dandy ones lately, but in 2016 i have to admit i was real impressed by my Tradeex Super B for 299.00 it shoot easy like a 1200.00 9mm 1911... My 0.02... JP.
 
Regarding the walther q5 match. Just fyi. The pistol is awaiting approval for ipsc production. The trigger after a while breaks less than 5lb. Technically that's a good thing, but ipsc prod requires the first pull to be 5lb or greater. On a L1 match, no on will care but L2 or above might gauge your trigger. Also for availability, bullseye has the mags. A standard 9mm/40sw mag pouch should be good enough to hold the mags. They are not wide like glock mags are.
 
I have had a hard look at the STI Trojan in 9mm. But with ambi safety and magwell it comes in over $2100 before tax and shipping. Will a 1911 be competitive enough for 3-gun? Looks like the majority of people I see are running striker fired pistols.
 
For a 1911, you might also find a Springfield Range Officer. They are well built guns and cheaper than the STIs.

Another option I'm kind of liking these days, is the Sig P320. It is getting great reviews. The newer RX version looks very nice with the optic.

I have the Colt Comp 9mm you're talking about. I've fired 1000 rounds through it so far and love it. The finish is quite durable. There's a guy on youtube that does a pretty through review on it although, I don't share his views on the issues he has with the pistol. All round, it's a great gun. You'll need to fire about 500 rounds through it to break it in. Stay away from the Aguila's until the pistol breaks in. Anything after is fine. I typically run S&B and AE through mine. I keep mine clean after each visit to the outdoor range I go to and have no jamming issues. I prefer the red-sight over the blue. Shows up better in the sunlight outside.
 
I don't know what you budget is like but there are some very decent economy priced 9mm semi auto and even the Alfa 9mm revolvers. Canada Ammo has Caniks and Alfas as well as their usual Norincos.

I see from what you post that your budget is reasonable for just about anything out there, other than the exotics.

Tradex has a great price on their surplus police issue M92 pistols and in all honesty, unless you are really going into IPSC, which is extremely time and money consuming the bottom of the grip mag release isn't any sort of issue most shooters would be concerned with. The other great pistol they offer at $299 is the Spanish Super B. The Super B is a darn nice pistol and is very ergonomically correct for an individual with a medium sized hand. Not only that, it shoots as well as most can hold. The triggers are also nice on these single action first pull semi auto pistols. I like mine a lot. I also like my Canik which is a clone of the CZ Shadow. Never a failure to feed or eject with factory/surplus loads. I did have an issue with some light loads I use in my S&W M39 with stovepiping in the Canik. I don't think those rounds would operate reliably in any other pistol than the M39 which has an aluminum/titanium frame. Even though they were designed to be a LEO sidearm with reduced weight, they don't seem to stand up well to extensive shooting with heavy loads or factory ammo. Mine is in excellent condition and has been rebarreled to restricted status. It shoots better than I can hold. I don't mind the DA only feature as I really like shooting DA revolvers.

I wasn't aware they did a optics ready frame for the p-320...going to have to get one now...I'm loving the sig...
 
If you are looking at the Q5, then get it. I sold my PPQ navy and wound up with an M2 5" the same week. Once you go Walther, I don't think ya go back!

I just noticed IrunGuns has PPQ mags yesterday.
