Toying with the idea of a new rifle (don't need one but how many of us really do) for deer and bear. Looking for real life experience, it's come down to the good old 44 mag or the 450 bushmaster. The rifle will mainly be carried while dogging for deer and the occasional sit with 100 yard shooting

That's a beauty, I would be looking more at the RAR in 450. The rifle would take a beating going through the bush/swamps. It would be a loaner rifle mire than anything, I live carrying my T3x battue but always looking for another new toy. A Battue in 450 would be a fun rifle

The RAR was me pick as well. For me at least, the bugger be light & accurate with my handloads. The ergonomics of the rifle suit me well. I fitted the unit with a Timney trigger which be a good improvement for me uses.

Any shorter bbl 308 would be perfect for the OP's needs.

Given the choices he mentioned, I'm thinking the 44mag would be the far better of the two given the wider choice of firearms choices and MUCH more ammo availability.

RAR in 7.62x39 to split the difference. They are certainly handy and accurate with quality ammunition or blast away with surplus if you can find any!

I currently have a Tikka t3x Battue in 308, just have the itch for somethingdifferet to play with
