Time for a varmint killer

Pretty sure he's done something by now. This thread is 3.5 years old...:p

I think Willy's hiding out with BIG REDD...:D

LOL.............JK

Great todbartell, spend over $360 USD on the Leupold VXII and buy an economy rifle for it to sit on.....to boot a Savage ugly sister made from spare parts in the factory...sure they shoot but...they are just sooooooo ugly.

:agree: OP said that $$$ no object. So why waste your time posting. I buy savage, Remington, and Mossberg because that is what I can afford right now. However...money no object? Sako in 223 Remington. I like the cartridge and it gets to shoot everything from gophers to wolves.

If money is no object, I'd build one in .22 PPC or .22 BR, with a nesika or some such benchrest action, and match barrel. The Dakota comes with nesika action, but either way this has the most potential for a very accurate LR varmint gun.

Stevens 200, 22-250
+1.

Plus a $53 Fitco scope, $5 spray bomb in what ever color you want, and its gopher time.

I don't know if anyone else does this, but I need a load that's reduced a lot to be quiet and for close range. I found 35.2gr of 3031 will give me 3900-4000fps and 12.5gr of Trail Boss gives ~2000fps with 40gr Nosler or V-max bullets. The light load is the same as a .22WMR.

If I had some $$ burning a hole in my pocket, I'd get a nice thumb hole stock. It certainly shoots worthy of one.

Okay, I'm gonna say it! Does anyone really use a .22/250 or swift for gophers? A morning session of gopher hunting for me uses 300+ shells (rimfire .22 and .17 HMR), sometimes just for a change of pace, a few c.f. cast bullet loads, which cost less to make then the .17 HMR.

That seems a good price on the scope.
I've seen quite a few 700 sps in 22-250 at the range that were definatly accurate.
But I shoot a stevens with an 8x32 4200 on it so what would I know. :D

EDIT: I don't care how old the thread is. Nothing wrong with putting a loopie on a stevens. LOL!

220 swift will rock varmints worlds. One guy said you dont need hair splitting accuracy for varmints that statement confuses me how else would you hit beer can size targets at 300-400 yards???? I am a rem fan that 220 sendero is hell on coyotes.
