I tagged a bird mid-day yesterday17.5 pound Jake... 4.5" beard.... little tiny spurs. He was hanging around with a couple of buddys and he won the race to my slate call... his prize was a seat at a turkey dinner in his honor!
I used the old Benelli SBE II for this bird and a Kicks Gobbling Thunder Wad stripper tube courtesy of Chilly Willy. For shot I finally tried the 3 1/2" #6 Winchester Xtended Range Hi-Density Turkey loads. I was very impressed with these shells the shot was approximately 45 yards and it lifted the bird off its feet and blew it on to its back where it never moved a muscle for about a minute and a half. Then it did a feeble imitation of a rotor-tiller for about 15 seconds and I cut my second tag.
Hurry up fellas time is short, only two days left!
