Time to get a 14.5" reliable AR. Which is best?

Thanks to Questar, it's now time to get an AR. I have no AR and not even any restricted black rifle. Please help sign me up to the club! I am looking for a 14.5" AR because our range only goes up to 200 yards, so I don't need to do any long distance shooting.

Since I'm looking to do no-hassle shooting on the range, I will need something of high build quality and high reliability so that I'm not having to clear stoppages. Could someone please recommend a good reliable 14.5" AR? Since reliability is such an important consideration, I would even consider a 16" if they are said to be more reliable. 20" is a little unwieldy and probably too heavy. I am not doing any target shooting. Just want to outshoot a Mini-14 or CZ-858 at that distance!

LMT from Questar is the closest to a mil-spec issue M4 carbine you can get from an official vendor here in Canada, unless you can somehow secure a Colt 6921. But unfortunately due to recent US State Dept. restrictions these are no longer available to Canadian civilians without an end-user license, so Questar is only selling current stock and non-NFA items and I do believe he just recently sold out on the 14.5" and 10.5" uppers. Wolverine might still have some 14.5" flat-tops (Armalite, also a reputable brand). Your other option would be to get one second-hand.

AR15s aren't really heavy or unweildy at any barrel length. That is one of the major pro's of the design.

They do tend to get heavy, I had a 20" HBAR weighed down with a Knight's rail system, aluminum flashlight, vertical grip and Trijicon ACOG, the thing would weigh close to 11 pounds unloaded, which is roughly the weight of a .308 service rifle.

Darnit, it is so typical that they just sell out permanently of the exact thing I need! (14" Colt uppers). Would you believe I once turned down a Colt 6920, even though I could afford it?

What about standard/non-standard parts? I'd want one with the most standard parts. Preferably that came with a good guarantee and service, maybe even test-fired.

So far Questar is looking good, DPMS, yeah. No 20"s though, since I'd prefer to buy a pretend-CQB.

Stick with a Stag or LMT...

Longer 20" barrel does not increase accuracy... it only provides additional velocity, which means it'll do squat for punching papers at 200 yards.

6920's have the 16" barrel, you still have a bunch of 16" options including Stag Arms sold by Arms East, Rock River Arms (Questar), Armalite etc., it's the 14.5" Colt 6921's that are more sought after.
LMT uses standard parts, you can still get their 16" upper which are a great option, their bores are chrome-lined, MP tested and the uppers are factory test fired.

16" Armalite midlengths are pretty handy. I regularly use them for 100 and 200 shooting, with good potential for 300. You may find them to be a little front-heavy though.

In terms of triggers, some offer standard while others offer 2-stage. The standard is the military-trigger, right? Is there any reason to go for the 2-stage for short-range target practice? What is the comparison? For what it's worth, I find the Garand and M-14 triggers to be great, the K-31 to be very sweet (is this like the 2-stage?). Even the CZ-858 is pretty good. I'm not very fussy, as long as it breaks more cleanly than an SKS!

Also, when it comes to picking stocks, I'm not going to be entering and exiting vehicles in Iraq, so do I really need a collapsible stock? I like longer stocks like the Garand, etc... so should I just go with the standard?

I tried to go LMT or something else for my 2nd AR but I but I just could not do it since my Bushmaster has been so good to me.

Both my Bushmasters eats everything I feed it. They shoot Wolf about 90% of the time. Every Bushmaster you get, you know you are getting chrome line barrel and NATO chambering. I have one in 16" HBAR barrel with A2 FH. My other one is a 14.5" barrel with Izzy FH.

Me and some friends decided to go to the range today. Pic below.

Dr_Scholl:

We are allowed to own AR15's and they MUST be registered. We can use them on ranges only and then bring them back home. Luckily we can own every single barrel length as you can read by all our posts here on the Black Rifle forum. Enjoy yer visit and hanging out with us "Usual Suspects" :)

Yeah, we can only own 30 rd magazines blocked to 5 rds. Kinda like being in Kalifornia, but a little colder.

Welcome aboard to the CGNutz community.

Man, that really sucks. What's the point of an AR-15 if you can only fire 5 rounds at a time? Even in California they let mere mortals have 10 rounds. I remember how much of a pain the AWB was here when it was in effect. Even law enforcement agencies weren't sure what was legal and what wasn't since it was based on cosmetic features. And it did absolutely nothing to stop crime. I hope you guys can get your repealed soon.
