just got my new order of 550 grain crater's in the mail from the states and am ich'n to load up some fresh loads for the 45-70g!......season opens up in the few weeks---can't wait!...larry:cool:

bear season

If I hunt bears this year I will use the .338 and try out the 250 grain Silvertips :D
I have not actively hunted bears in about 8 years or more so perhaps I will take one for pepperoni this year.:cool: I happen onto about 4 bears per season and they usually don't even know I'm there and one or two need to be "coaxed" off the trail for me to pass by.:)
Riverhunter's giant 45 caliber pills should work really well for the fuzzy critters.
 
those Craters will surely land with enourmous thump! :eek: :D

This may answer a question I posted in another thread, and ANOTHER question another CGN posted in yet another thread:

I had asked about large solids as bear bullets in the 45/70, specifically load and powder info (I just got set up to reload this week... Yee Haw!)

I and the other fella were wondering if there's any restriction or hoops to jump through about shipping or recieving shipments of bullets only from the US?

silver, here is part of the final test i did last year for the 550's.....i believe i started with 36 grains and worked up to 1530fps----after that i think the pressures would put me into no mans land!!:p

I put a 40 grainer in the chamber and put last 3 bullets in the mag!

i think the h322 is the powder for me, at least in my gun....a person who was a better shot could prob shrink those groups:) .

as far as getting the bullets here--no problem...duty was about $21 cad......for 250 bullets price+ shipping was $129US.......and of course, they are gas checked!!....have some 420 grainers too, shooting at 1800fps.....hope that helps.....larry:)
