Time to revisit Sunday hunting in Nova Scotia !!

Move to Nova Scotia...all kinds of things will make you shake your head. Like people who can distinguish caliber by sound.

Oh that happens here too. I have range membership, so I've seen some really little guns make ridiculous noise (it's amazing how loud 556 is from a super short barrel with a brake)... I've taken a friend to the range a few times, and he's always commenting about the bangs while in the parking lot... "oh man that musta been a 300 sooper magnum or something!"... And of course, he shoots patterns not groups with his 300wm...

If they mean 5.56 C7 vs 7.62 AK, I believe them. But I'm guessing it's not that.

It's one big constant head shake out here. Never seen anything quite like it. But at least the people are nice.

My friend picked up my Winchester Model 71 and said "I love a good 30-30". Wasn't sure if I should cry or slap him.

I've sighted in at least a half dozen rifles for people on their annual range trip. This week. Mind you one was a nice Win 70 Featherlight which I've never had the pleasure to shoot before... but I also have more Axis trigger time than I ever thought possible.

Showing up at a range with a spotting scope and chrono this time of year is like being the only guy in town with a pickup.

Oh, and not gun related but the near universal avoidance of using cruise control on the highway, coupled with varying your speed + or - 20km/h is crazy making. As is the provincial tradition of brindicating, ie coming to an almost complete stop in the road and THEN signalling. It's so remarkably consistent that I'm sure they must teach it in driver's ed here.

NB was not far behind maybe 2 years there was a poll taken by the DNR about Sunday hunting and the year after we had it.Now all they have to do is change the Varmint law so you can use something bigger than a .223.

The anti movement is the primary blockade...

Even on the novascotiahuntingdotcom/forum/ opinion was divided.

Some people argued against it. Some people even argued that we should trade hunting-on-Sunday for (a new) no-hunting-on-another day...like Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, etc.

Dear lord where do people come up with this crap.... There is no reason to ban hunting on any particular day of the week.

Sunday hunts increase opportunity for working people, and thus benefit local economies, through the funds they spend. It's a win/win.

Using this mode of thought maybe the exact persons that suggest this "trade" should really consider not driving one or even two days during the week, after all it will make the highways safer??

maybe this will suit them as well??

It was only in 2009 that hunting on Sundays was allowed in Saskatchewan. Makes no sense to ban a particular day of the week. Slowly, but surely we are required to wear less and less orange. A few years back it was head to toe, then jacket (with sleeves) and hat, and now its just a vest and hat. Looking to forward to getting rid of that nonsense as well.

The Sunday hunting ban was not lifted here in NL until 2006, it was in place for 140 years. Even now Sunday hunting is not allowed until the first Sunday in October. Like chd560 said, it makes to sense to ban a particular day of the week. You can buy a case of beer, a bottle of rum, play gambling machines, buy a pack of smokes, or whatever you want, but can't go hunting on Sunday? C'mon.
We are not required to wear blaze orange, they only recommend it.

BRINDICATING!!!! Love It!!!

It isn't just hunting, Nova Scotia's labour standards treat Sunday differently too. In Nova Scotia, many employees have a right to refuse any work on a Sunday.

That said...

Practically speaking, Employment Insurance actually allows people to refuse work altogether. Why work?

Harper accurately called it "...a culture of defeat." Thank God for (temporary foreign worker) Fillipinos, otherwise Tim Horton's (and similar employers') would be out of business.
