Time to upgrade Cheapest Hornady Lock n Load AP in Canada ?

Got my LNL from Henry, very happy with it. Remember that you get 500 free bullets for another 20 bucks. I got 500 30cal 150 GR SP worth ~$150 so that bring the LNL to $460-150+20=$330

I built my own case feeder using UHMC plastic (10 bucks from Lee Valley), old rod from tent, and the Lee Collator/rod $30.

Doing 300rnds of 45ACP an hour is typical. 100rnds/15 minutes is no problem, I like to take my leisure, if I want to rush or save money doing OT makes a lot more than I can save reloading.

Thank you for replying acrashb.

Sorry, my post was for everyone to reply.

I especially wanted to hear from you acrashb, because of your comparisons between the Dillon and Hornady. I have seen your posts and very nice work by the way.

After checking your posts I was convinced that the Hornady Ammo Plant was for me. The only reason I don't own one right now is the price. I suppose I got intrigued by the initial cost of the machine without realizing the actual total cost with all the parts needed to load five calibers.

Basically I am looking at about $5,000.00 for the Hornady and $6,000.00 for the Dillon. Way more money than I had expected.

With that large of an investment I want to make damn sure I get the one I will be happy with. The funny thing is the only thing I have not seen on this site is those astronomical numbers.

I would appreciate anyone who has had experience with these machines to chime in.

.

i don't know what you have included into that 5000 but that is extremely high granted i don't have the bullet feeder but i do have it set up to do 4 calibers for about half of what you are saying it will cost. my prices include all reloading equipment (press, dies case feeder, plates, etc...) and does not include components (bullets, powder, etc...). I believe your price estimate is a little exaggerated or your including alot of possibly unneeded tools

edit: also to add to my post that you really dont need to spend all the money at once you can easily build up over a matter of time

Got a price for the Hornady

$460 Press
$360 case feeder
$25 extra bushing
$45 Shell holder
______________
Tax in $1023.28

:-/ hummm

Now that the L&L AP has caught on as a neck to neck alternative to the 650 (550 is a turret press !!), they've stopped giving them away.

Got my L&L w Case Feeder a few years ago, $C 950.00 bolted to my bench. A year and a half later I got 1000 45ACP 185gr JSWC bullets free. I figure I'm out less than $750.00 for the whole shabang.

I, like most CGNers, don't have a 650 and a LnL bolted to my bench to actually compare the two,, acrashb is the ONLY !! CGNer to have actually done that. By my experience, his post (sticky above) is very much worth the read.

After reading the lengthly Dillon vs Hornady posts I decided Hornady was the one I wanted.

There is a new Hornady LocknLoad AP Ammo Plant Kit complete with case feeder and bullet feeder +/- $1350.00 USD.

Hornady Professional Reloaders Kit for $425.00 USD

All still sounds simple and reasonable

What I actually need is 6 calibers from Hornady (Dillon gives you one with the kit)

My estimate had some brass and bullets and some other accessories but the bottom line is considerably more than the base price of $1775.00 USD priced through the Hornady website. (actually more from a dealer in Canada)

Add to that 2 pages of part numbers. (what numbers do you get)

After being shocked by the price I checked out the Dillon 1050 to see if it was cheaper, nope.

All in premium everything for 6 calibers for the Dillon 1050 = $ 5500.00 USD without the bullet feeder.

Just waiting for next weeks lottery.

i think you are referring to the precision reloaders kit??? If so it isnt really a kit necessarily for progressive reloading and there are better options for what you actually need in that kit although it looks like a nice kit to get for reloading precision ammo

You do understand you can only use hornadys bullet feeder for pistol bullets?
And you may wish to check out the online reviews for it, I looked into it in the fall and some users had feed problems with shorter heavy blunt bullets.

Ive read Mystical Dillon VS Hornady post.
I wanted the Hornady after reading it, now I just don't.

$457 + $360 = $817 for Hornady LnL AP
$599 + $240 = $839 for Dillon 650

Prices do not include taxes. These are local price no shipping.
To this you need to add conversion kits and cases adapter, we are still very close.
Ok hornady will give me free bullets, But I am buying a press not bullets. Bullets budget is another story.

I thought that the price difference would have been way bigger.
with a $300-400 price difference decision is easy. Now it's another story, I think I am gonna have to go try them in real life.

but your getting it for free.... you have to include that. even if you don't want the bullets, selling 500x 45's will recoup your money to some extent. 100 rd boxes of 45's will get you $25 with ease. so that's $125 off your costs.
