i am looking at getting a timer now...

RU Ready Speed Timer 3000 - $139.95 CAN
PACT - MKV - $199.99 US
CED8000 - $149.99 US
CED7000 (not release yet) - $119.99 US

Pact is on sale on the website.....?

shootingchrony.com (Mississauga based company) has a new one - $99.99 US (don't worry about the advertised Canadian price $149.99, the exchange rate is 1.14)

From their site:
Smallest and lightest full feature timer. 2.75" x 4.5" x 1"; Weight: 6 oz.; very small and has a pocket/belt clip.

Features: Shot times, split times, random delay or instant start, programmable par time, shot numbers, loud start signal and self shut-off in case one forgets.

Fall Guy.....that is the RU Ready timer......one thing about the Pact I have read lots of bad thing's about it realibility of the lack of it and it customer support seem bad, they also had lots software bug....that was on the Brian Enos Forum.......

You should consider that about 99.9% of the IPSC matches on the Globe use the RU Ready timer...probably not a bad idea to get accustomed to its' beep :p

It probably is a bad idea to practice with something else with a lazy beep at a low pitch...

Every once in a while someone shows up to a practice session with a Pact timer...and man I just can't get used to the tone of the beep...it does throw me off a bit...

Just my .02

my personal opinion. The RU Ready timers suck. Huge. sorry, I know they are big sponsors of the sport, but they suck. In Canada we get rain, they don't like rain (other timers out there are waterproof). I personally hate the controls, especially the "Hold Down and wait" in order to do an instant start. I prefer the style where you just press the button and away you go. I'd also like more options on the par timer, repeats on auto starts with random delays etc. Hmm sounds like I like PACT better?
All that said, my club uses a RU Ready, as it was cheap and gets the job done, even if it's annoying. Of course, like every other one I've seen, the belt clip broke off within about 3 hours of opening the package.

Would amke sense to buy one from the states if we keep supporting our Canadian dealers like this, there won't be any. RU Ready is a good product and at a fair price so why not support the guy. I know Jack and if you are having issue's with his product he will fix it. So why buy the product that is not Canadian? You guys would drive 1000 miles to save a dollar but don't seem to have any allegiance to Canadian dealers. What gives?

762nato, I do have one of Jack timer and I like it....but I also like to have one new CED 7000 for it's features......mainly for training! (like variable start delay and multiple par's) I do have to admit that it's probably more of a gadget then a tool (time will tell)....but it's still fun to buy gadget once in a while....ok pretty often :)

It's not a problem with anybody's product, per se, it's just a couple of important points I'm trying to make:

1) If membrane buttons were better, the keyboard you are sitting in front of would have membrane buttons. It doesn't, does it?

2) My hand is not rectangular, not by a long shot.

Jack's electronics inside something hand shaped and click buttony would be fantastic!

with more features. I really hate the press, hold, and release system of starting. an instant start button would be much much better. I am all for supporting Canadian businesses, but when they don't offer features I want, I am forced to go elsewhere.
I did like what RU Ready did for the Nationals in Barrie though. Too bad the pressure pad didn't get used, would've been a neat start.

Slavex last year Ont Provincial....their was two pressure pads one that started the timer one ....when get off your sitting postion and one started when the gun was pick-up from the table.....perhaps will be used this ???? I don;t know....but they were cool

I like the tone on the RU Timers but a big shortfall is that the par time can only be set at 0.5 sec increments. The CED8000 timers can be set at 0.1 sec increments; a necessary feature if doing the drills in Steve Anderson's book 'Refinement and Repetition'......

Another nice feature of the CED8000 is that they come with earphones. Nice feature for not disturbing the rest of the household when doing dry fire practice at home as well as not distracting other shooters when at the range.
