How does the timney tactical trigger compare to the jewell? There is a fellow close by that just got one and he's pretty impressed by it but neither one of us has a jewell to compare. How does that trigger bar feel? It looks like it would take some getting used to, it can be adjusted to where you want it which is kind of neat. It's half the price of a jewell but if it's junk I wanna know!

I have a Timney in a AR and tried several Jewel triggers in the bolt actions (PGW rifles) Dont know if its fair to compare but if your rifle can take a Jewel, get it;)

I have one with a factory set 4oz pull and think it is great as far as having no creep, and I love the bar. What I don't like is that it does not come with a safety, or a bolt stop. I knew about the safety as it is advertised as not having one, but was looking for a work around for the bolt stop. Timney stated that although the trigger is called "tactical" it is meant only for "bench rest" type shooting wherein a bolt stop is not required/needed.

Although I like the trigger a lot, I would look at spending some more money on a quality trigger that includes at lest a bolt stop, or can be made to use the original Rem 700 bolt stop.

If you need want a trigger w/safety that goes to 1 to 2 ounces, the Jewell if for you.

Otherwise, the Timney and Shilen do a very good job with a slightly heavier pull but no option for a safety.

Some Rem actions have a holes on the side of the action and you can put a bolt here to act as a bolt stop.

Never tried a Timney but I do own 4 Jewell triggers.....love them, love them, love them....and you can get them in any configuration you want.

Bolt Rls, w/safety
Bolt rls, w/o safety
No Bolt Rls, w/safety
No Bolt Rls, No Safety

The HVR can be set from (a usable) 6.5oz up to 3.5lbs (They state 2oz but it gets a funny clicky creep when setting this low)

Timney triggers are a step up from the factory triggers, but not even comparable to a jewel.
For the price Shilien makes an EXCELLENT Remington trigger, next best to Jewel, but still a far cry from Jewel.

I have a Shillen and a timneys tactical. The timney's is on a Rem 700 wildcat rifle. Very nice very light and crisp after I had it professionally set up. I like it better than the Shillen for this type of rifle. I've never tried a Jewel so I can't compare those two.

Does your timney tac have a bolt stop?

no bolt stop, I've got it
but I have a mcmillan a-5 with an adjustable cheekpiece which is kinda neat because it acts as a bolt stop :)

Not sure. It came with the gun. I believe it does since you have to take the rifle apart to activate the bolt release. No safety though. I shoot it single shot since it's a wildcat round that doesn't feed from the internal magazine anyways.

start with the best...buy a Jewel...

This, I already regret not putting a Jewel on my rifle. The Shilen was in stock so I bought it instead of waiting on the Jewel.
Shilen was only $180 whereas the Jewel would be like $320 or something crazy tho.
Would have been money better spent tho. The Shilen is still a very nice trigger IMO. Best trigger I've owned anyways.

$180 that much. I have seen them for a lot less. Did that one come with a safety and bolt release or is it a stainless model.

It may have been less than $180, I don't remember actually. I will have to look it up. My point was that it is significantly cheaper than a Jewel, but not to be compared with a Jewel.

hit the nail on the head in regards to triggers. Many will argue this point that the Timmney, Shilen or Basix is JUST AS GOOD. WRONG, NOT IN THE SAME LEAGUE.

There is a reason shortrange and longrange BR shooters choose Jewell.

There is NO COMPARING a Timney to a Jewell. The Timney's are nice, much better than factory, but the Jewells are a TOTALLY different class altogether. You will not be sorry you spent the money for the Jewell! Phil
