I almost hate to post a thread like this but.....

Is it just me, or is it getting harder to get components?

My normal source is having a hard time getting new Win .223 brass, .40cal bullets, and recommended I take the last 2x1000 bricks of Federal Match primers as he heard he won't get anymore till next year.

What are your experiences? Am I worrying over nothing? Since I'm very new to the shooting sports, this may be a normal ebb and flow, but.....I know the DARK FORCE is nipping at our heels...:confused: :( :redface:

...or is it just a war production issue, or what?

In Quebec, we've always had a hard time getting components. When they are available, we usually pay a higher price than in Ontario. This is why many of us buy at Higgy's in Hawksburry. Most reloading components have a very long shelf-life(powders-primers) when properly stored. Unlimited for bullets and extremely long for cases if loaded to low or mid-range load levels.

Bottom line, when anything is available and you have the available $$'s, buy so you won't feel sorry later when you or your component supply goes through an extended dry spell.
 
Some of us have limited money and space. Ten years from now when I have a well-paying job and my own house I'm sure I won't have a problem. But for now I don't have the cash or space to buy enough components to reload 10,000 rounds.

I do not agree with you : for the last 5 years and until a month ago, primer were cheaper in Montreal than in Hawkbury. A lot cheaper ..19.95-21.95 versus $25 at Higginson. Brass is plentiful and if you have a specific requirement look on Ebay.

I never had any problems to get primer - bullets and brass for pistol and rifle. If you know were to look and are ready to pay more at this time of the year because the demand is high - there is some. The time of the year to buy components is October-November-December - January.. not when everybody want it !!:evil:
 
I dunno lots of CCI and Winchester primers around. Problem exists with Federal or so it seems.
US war stocks are depleated and word from South of the 49th is thet Federal is not making any more civilian runs of primers for at least 12 months or as long as 24 months.
I moved away from Federal primers in the last crunch, CCI kept the reloaders supplied to a greater degree as did Winchester.
 
Federal is part of the ATK group of companies, which is a primary defense contractor for the States. As I understand it, their production of primers for the retail market has been curtailed to increase production for manufacturing contracts. What little they will produce for retailers will go to US stores first. Canadian stores have been told that they will not recieve any this year.

Also, from what I hear shipments of Winchester primers to Canadian retailers so far this year have been reduced, and have contained no rifle primers.
