Tinkering with a new M305

Just received my new M305 and first thing I've noticed are the toolmarks on charging handle tracks. Makes me want to break out the lapping papers and dremel to smooth it all out. Anyone tried to do polishing work on their m305?

By the way what's the most basic accuracy upgrade?

Most basic upgrade is getting an improved spring guide. The flat one causes the operating spring to kink. A round one will keep it straight and consistent. I think you can get one for under $20 (check EE)

If these are the weld marks that show up on some, smoothing may be in order...
R

not welds, discoloration caused during the parking process.

OP, if it doesn't effect function, I wouldn't worry.

reloading, spring guide, shimming gas works, reloading, bedding, new stock, free floating everything you can.

Just received mine today. Our receiver at work wanted to know "what was in the long box"?

Hobby equipment says I.

Just gave it a quick wipe down to check how the fit was in my E2 stock.

Bought this one off of a guy probably 20 years ago now. Said he got it from Springfield when he ordered his M1A, but didn't like it.

DAMN, that looks sweet!!!

I wonder if one could still find that E2 stock somewhere?? It would look GREAT on my shorty M305 (the one thing I dislike about the M305 is that black synthetic stock)

I love the synthetic stock, I would love a Troy Industries MCS but that would be in the future. I just cant get over the rough finish though and the charging handle is a bit sharp too even the trigger is rough.

Anyone did any polishing on their rifle? I guess I'll be looking for the spring guide and spring first. Can AM ran out of it, where's the cheapest place to get m305 upgrade parts and magazines from?

Don't waste your hard earned $$$ on a Troy. Gothmog and triple B sells there own but I don't think NEA has any more spring guides in stock. As for shorties from CanAm I am sure it's only a temporaly out of stock thing and if you check the EE they always pop up.
As for re-finishing a nork well lets just say that mine costed me an arm, leg, kidney and what ever else body part I could part with to get it polished and then chromed dipped but atleast it's not rough any more :p

Nice looking rifle Satain. Yeah it bothers me that when I run my fingers through the metal I feel a lot of toolmarks. I have lots of time so polishing them by hand wouldn't be too far off. Did you do the polishing yourself or the guys that did the chrome job did it?

BTW what's that scope mount? I've been reading from the forum and te stickies keep on saying most mounts are trash, which kinda sucks.

Had to edit the previous post. Im looking for a spring and spring guide, or upgrade parts in general.

toss up a post on the EE.

there are lots of guys with parts left over from builds etc.

sometimes though, you can look for something for weeks, find it then see six pop up on the EE shortly afterwards....

Hungry had (has?) some usgi springs, gas cylinder shims
s&j (?) hardware is now producing their spring guides again

sfrc (the ammo source) has spring guides and cheek risers.

spcammo has usgi rear sights and flash hiders. as well as brakes.

lots of usgi stocks floating around.

toss up a WTB ad with everything you are after, and the PM's will come in.

How are you able to get your scope to click down enough when it's that high? I have 30mm medium rings on my m305, with the same mount, and a 60moa adust scope and I'm 2 inches high at 100 yards.
