Tip of the day...

Tips of the day ... don't pizz into the wind, make sure the last wipe comes away clean, always turn around and check your pants befor you yank'em up, ... and don't mess with the sights.

The advice is particularly important when dealing with factory supplied open sights. Adjustments are not exactly precise, as I discovered to my regret a few years ago.

Don'tchya never sell the old 22 son,
Don'tchya never sell the old 22.
'Cause the old 22 shot a gopher or two so don'tchya never sell the old 22.
Be sure ya aim left a little low son,
Be sure ya aim left a little low...
'Cause the old iron sight fires high and to the right so be sure ya aim left a little low.

So why is it that when you have a micrometer click receiver sight that is sighted in for hunting that when some looks at the gun they crank the windage knob?

If you go to a bar and get drunk with your friend, dont let your friend who is legally blind drive! It doesn't help.

Don't arc weld with your shirt open:redface:, and let somebody who can actually shoot sight your rifle in.....:p

This is common knowledge, but worth repeating.

Rifle sight in:

Sandbag up and shoot one round at 25 yards.
Put the x hairs back on the aiming point and (without moving the rifle) crank the adjustments until the x hair is on the center of the bullet hole.
I make the adjustments while looking through the scope and if the gun wiggles you will see it and will be able to roughly correct for this.

Check your 100 yard zero and repeat.

Fine tune at 200.

When your out at a buddies place leave a nice deposit in the toilet and do not flush!
Then blame your buddy!
Watch his wife.

Works for me. :)

When the hell did you shoot my Dad's .22? LOL but it does shoot high and right

Mount Sweetness, if I could shoot that well with my iron sights and old eyeballs, I'd need some "depends" . And Why not? gave you good advice, always shoot high with them as you can't see what's below them. ;)

mine would be, when using the peep sight that must be removed in order to remove the bolt for cleaning, make sure you have locked it in for the sighting in you have done that day.
I once sighted in my rifle, going from a 150gn to a 200gn, raised the rear sight to where it was now supposed to be, put the rifle away, it was a wet day, so when I got home, I took it out and cleaned it good. Next day, I fired at a nice doe, 75yds away and completely missed her!! Saw the bullet hit the snow right under her!! I couldn't figure it out. When I got home, I noticed that the rear sight seemed to be in the same place it was before I had sighted it the day before. I had forgotten to turn down the locking screw!! Back to the range, buck that afternoon.

Doesnt anybody use a bore sight? Works like a hot damn for peeps and should do nice for irons that need it. There is a gizmo that smiths use for extracting front sights that would be much better for minimal adjustment than a hammer and a brass pin. Its a threaded gizmo that would allow very small increments of adjustment.

After 35 years my best buddy (hunting and shooting bud as well) and I still have a lot of laughs.
Our wives have become best friends as well.
I have another bud that has stuck with me for over 30 years....

Don't worry my friends can more than handle their own. ;)
